Happy Halloween! Content warning: I talk a lot about blood during this chapter because Kurapika is a vampire >:)

"Pika?" Leorio asked, peeking into his roommate's open door.

"Huh? You alright?" He asked sleepily, sitting up from his napping place at his desk.

Leorio startled when he saw Kurapika's face. "You uh. I should be asking if you are alright."

"Why?" Kurapika stood so he could see his reflection in the mirror, but was overcome by a dizzy spell and sat back down. "Oh."

The blond's eyes were bloodshot and tired, with dark bags underneath and pale -oh so pale skin. He looked like death.

"Do you umm... need help?" Leorio offered timidly.

"What do you mean?"

Leorio waved his hand, trying to find the right words. "I mean like, blood. Do you need blood? It's been a while... you look terrible."

"Oh. Oh! Leorio, I already told you, that was one time only. I don't want to hurt you."

"But Kurapika-"

"It's ok, really. I'll manage." Kurapika smiled. "Thanks for watching out for me, though."

Leorio nodded. "I'm having some dinner, would you like to join?"

"Sorry, I have to crunch with this essay. It's due at 6 am, and I've barely started." Kurapika rubbed his face. "I'll go to the store right after, I think I need my prescription filled." (Pills containing dehydrated DONATED blood. A healthy and safe alternative to the traditional vampire diet.)

"I can get it for you."

The blond smirked. "My my, you're so eager to please."

Leorio huffed. "I'm being considerate. You know, since it's your time of the month."

Kurapika gave him an unimpressed look. "Ouch. Leorio. That was my feelings you stepped on."

He shrugged and left. "I'll leave leftovers on the table when I'm done."

Kurapika sighed. "Thank you!" He called down the hall, getting no response in return.

-

Leorio stared at the left overs on the plate, then checked the time. 6:30. Kurapika still wasn't out. He rolled his eyes and peeled himself off the couch to confront him.

When he got near the other's room, he heard heavy breathing. He knocked. "Kurapika?"

There was a thump, like he'd fallen. Images of Kurapika passed out on the floor flashed in Leorio's mind. He knocked louder.

A groan. That's the only response he got. Leorio gathered his courage, then opened the door.

Kurapika was on the floor. But he was on his knees, not unconscious like Leorio had feared. He was holding the edge of his bed, as if he had been in the middle of collapsing. He looked up when Leorio entered. He was in bad shape. His eyes were wide and crazed, and his irises were blood red.

"Kurapika?"

"Leave, Leorio." His voice was hoarse and cracking. He squeezed his eyes shut. "Please. I'm not safe to be around right now."

"Sorry. I had no idea. I'll get something, we have those popsicles, right?"

Kurapika shakes his head. "Gone."

"What about the emergency jar in the fridge?"

"Drank it last time." Kurapika opened his eyes. "Leorio, please, I-" his eyes widened and his pupils became slits. He bared his fangs for an instant before returning to normal. "Leave."
