{mafia and doctor au. Same au as "everything's gonna be alright," available on my profile.}

Kurapika walked in, shutting the door a little too hard behind him. He just ignored it, kicking off his shoes and tossing his jacket onto the bench by the door. He turned the corner to find leorio and Killua sitting on the couch. They both looked over when he entered.

"Oh, hey buddy," Kurapika's bad mood almost evaporated when he saw his son. "Er... sorry for the ruckus. Bad day at work. What happened?"

Killua looked to Leorio, and they shared a wordless exchange.

Leorio sighed. "Gon was hurt pretty bad, so he's gonna be sleeping for a while."

"What?" Kurapika approached the two boys on the couch, and put a hand on Killua's shoulder.

"Gon got beat up because he told them that he loved me." Killua said bitterly. He sniffled, then tears began to fall. "It's all my fault. He got hurt because of me."

"Oh, honey," Kurapika knelt next to the boy, and pulled him into a hug. Killua let his tears fall onto Kurapika's shoulder. "It's not your fault. Sometimes, things happen that we can't control.

Killua sobbed. "I could've stopped them, but I couldn't move. I was full of all these stupid feelings because of what Gon said. My head was all cloudy and I couldn't hear anything. I just stood there!"

Kurapika scooped the little man into his arms, and sat on the couch with him in his lap. Leorio scooted closer and put his arms around both of them.

Killua cried, surrounded by the loving arms of his parents.

"Where's Gon now?" Kurapika asked once Killua had control over his breathing again.

"Sleeping." He said, wiping his face.

"That's good. That means he's safe." Kurapika kissed the little boy's forehead. "He's safe, and he's going to get better soon. Everything's gonna be alright."

After a few more minutes of talking with his parents, Killua was sent to bed. He felt better after chatting with his dads, and was able to sleep soundly.

Kurapika turned to leorio as soon as Killua left the room. His eyes were blazing red. "Who did it?"

"Whoa, sunshine-"

"Who did it?!" Kurapika clenched his teeth. Beating up a thirteen year old kid because he's gay? Are they serious?

"They were probably some kids from the school, it's nothing to worry about."

"Probably the same kids that make fun of Killua for being albino." Kurapika spat bitterly. "It's not fair. They can't control these things. It's- it's too much like what happened to me, okay? I just... I want to fight back this time."

Leorio took his husbands fists and massaged them to relax. "Kurapika, I know you're angry about what happened to you because of your eyes, and what happened to Killua because of his condition, but please- please let them fight their own battles! This is not our place to interfere, they need to learn that they are strong enough to deal with bullies."

Kurapika scrunched up his nose -he always did that when he was angry. "I'll let it slide one time, one time! If either of those boys get hurt again, it'll be hell to pay."

A drop of sweat rolled down Leorio's face and he sighed. Oh well, at least I tried. But his shoulders tensed suddenly as he remembered. "Hey, when you said 'bad day at work,' did you mean like... bad day, or bad day?"

Kurapika looked up. "Oh, I just meant work made me angry. We're still safe, though. So don't worry. I was mostly apologizing for slamming the door."

Leorio hugged his husband. "That's a relief."

Being in the mafia made having a family hard, but it's also the reason they had a family. And now, after the fiasco with the phantom troupe, they were able to live peacefully... for the most part.

Kurapika may be a polite and sensible man, but he was still a member of the mafia. He had connections, names, and ways to get revenge. Today's incident would not be easily forgotten
