"Kurapika?"

The sound of his name woke him immediately, and he sat up. A rather disgruntled Leorio was standing at the foot of his bed, the blanket from last night still wrapped around him.

"I threw up."

Kurapika's heart sank. Probably nerves and stress. Poor guy. He scooted over and patted the mattress. Leorio slumped down next to him, and they got situated.

Leorio was a cuddly guy. He laid close to Kurapika, resting his head just below the pillow, so his face was almost touching Kurapika's chest. Kurapika slithered his arm beneath him so that he would have somewhere to rest his head.

Leorio wrapped his arms around Kurapika, then began to cry softly again. Kurapika cupped his face gently, rubbing his thumb across the man's cheek.

"Kurapika, I-" he sounded miserable. "I'm so sorry."

Kurapika shushed him gently. "You're here that's all that matters. Just be here with me." He snuggled in a little closer, whispering quietly. "Did you make it to the toilet when you threw up?"

"Yeah."

"Did you flush?"

Leorio took a calming breath. "Yeah. Then I brushed my teeth."

"Good. Thank you." Kurapika's eyes were nearly glued shut. "Goodnight Leorio."

Leorio had calmed down immensely since he woke up. He was now nestled safely in the arms of the man who rescued him from an abusive household.

Leorio was damaged. Terribly so. He knew it. That woman had trained him to expect violence, and accept even non-consensual sex on her every whim. He was a machine. A toy. An object to be tossed around, used, forgotten, and bullied. All he ever did was study and study and sometimes dread when his wife would come home.

Why did he put up with it? Because every once in a while, she would change. She would be kind and gentle, and clean up the house and make him dinner and kiss him good morning with a smile. She would hug him close, and tell him all the reasons he was wonderful. She would buy him expensive things and spend the day just being there with him. That's when Leorio decided that his life was good, and he'd maybe imagined some of the bad things that happened.

He felt guilty for leaving because he knew what he was missing out on; being treated like a king, warm hugs and a thousand kisses (and really -really good sex).

But he was safe with Kurapika. He didn't have to worry about getting hit, or tied up, or locking his bedroom door to avoid getting caught off guard. He didn't have to cater to anyone else's feelings and push his own wants and needs aside for whatever monstrosity was to come next. He didn't need to be checking over his shoulder all the time and worrying.

Leorio was free. He just hoped that his freedom wouldn't be fleeting.

Morning came, and Kurapika had disappeared. Leorio woke up alone and figured that his rescuer had left for good. It might be several years before he heard from him again.

Just as Leorio was wallowing in self-pity, the hotel room door opened. Kurapika walked in balancing two plastic containers and a cup holder for two coffees. In his other hand, he held utensils and the hotel keycard.

His hair was pinned up and out of his face, but he was still wearing his blue silk pajamas. He smiled gently when he saw Leorio.

"You're awake. I hope I didn't wake you, god knows you needed the rest." Kurapika approached, setting the food on the coffee table and then picking up the table to bring to the bedside. Holy shit that little man is strong.
