{Kurapika is in the mafia and Leorio is in med school. They haven't seen each other in a while.} Leorio POV
"Happy birthday Leorio." Johnson slapped me on the shoulder after we sat down.
My face was still bright red, and I tried to laugh it off. "I hate you guys so much."
"No you don't." Faris elbowed me.
I buried my face in my arms. "But a maid cafe? Are we kidding?"
"You've never been! You have to experience it at least once." Johnson threw back a shot of something with alcohol. "You're gonna love it."
I didn't like Johnson. Especially when he was drunk. If he drank too much, things would get really choppy, really fast.
"Welcome to Nostrade Cafe, I'll be your host-"
I snapped my attention to the waiter. It was Kurapika. I recognized his voice before I even looked up.
"My name is Ruby." He tried not to stutter, but he became flustered by seeing me. I could understand why. This was humiliating!
He wore a short maid dress and a black choker. His nails were painted and he was very well groomed. With a light dusting of makeup, it was easy to mistake him for a woman.
"Is there anything I can get started for you, gentlemen?"
"Oh, I'll start with your name." Johnson laughed. "I know it ain't Ruby."
I blinked. "Uh, that's just the way they run things here, Johnson."
"Why cant I know her name?"
Kurapika looked away, and I blinked in shock. "Maybe it's just store policy or something. It helps keep the employees safe."
"Whatever." Johnson grumbled. He ordered his meal, then wouldn't stop staring at Kurapika even after he moved on to ask Faris for his order.
Johnson's gaze made me uncomfortable. It was like he was trying to undress him with his eyes.
"Sir?" Kurapika's voice brought my attention back to real time. "Are you ready to order?"
I frantically looked at the menu and reread the passages. "Um, y'know what, you go ahead and choose. Whatever is your favorite, I'll have it."
He wrote some things down, then set off to deliver our orders. I couldn't lie, he looked cute in his costume.

Kurapika povI set the paper on a line and waited at the window. These heels were starting to get uncomfortable. But I couldn't take them off. It was part of my cover. I needed to blend in as a cute server girl, and get close to the target. I was to poison his food. Although I had no experience with roofies, I hoped the one tucked into my bra would do the trick.
My ankle started to throb, so I excused myself to the bathroom to take off my shoes. I was reaching for the door nob when it opened, revealing Leorio standing in the doorway. His eyes widened when he saw me.
We both stared at eachother, then I shoved him back into the bathroom and locked the door.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice a harsh whisper.
"No, no no you answer me that first. Why do you work at a maid cafe? Did the mafia gig not work out for you?"
"This is the mafia gig." I whispered through clenched teeth. "You need to get out of here because things are gonna get ugly really soon."
"How soon?"
"The target will be here any time in the next half and a full hour." I bent over and slipped my shoes off. "So leave before they come, and when you go just don't look suspicious."
I looked up at him, and he was just staring dumbly at me. I rolled my eyes. "Earth to Leorio. Can you hear me?"
"Yeah. I can hear you. Sorry, what did you say?"
I shook my head and put on a different pair of shoes I had hidden under the sink. "Just eat your food and get out of here."
Leorio hummed his agreement, but I could tell he was still just staring. I stood up, slapped him back into his senses, then left the bathroom. I dropped off my heels in the break room, then gathered the food for some other customers.
Of course Leorio would be here of all days. Of fucking course.
-
Leorio POVI sat down, still thinking about the sting on my face from the slap. He'd gotten me good.
I chatted with my mates, both of whom were a bit tipsy. I couldn't help but laugh at some of their mannerisms.
In a matter of minutes, Kurapika approached holding a tray full of plates. "Alright, here's the bacon avocado Swiss sandwich for you," he said, placing Faris' plate in front of him.
Johnson traced a finger up Kurapika's thigh, making him stand up straight. His eyes flashed scarlet and he gasped a little bit. His grip tightened on the tray.
I cleared my throat and rubbed my eye, signaling to Kurapika that his eyes had changed. I could see him mentally curse.
"Your food." He set the tray on the table and fled without another word.
"Thanks." Johnson winked at Kurapika as he left.
I felt sick to my stomach. This is so wrong. I shouldn't be here. Especially when kurpaika is in such an embarrassing situation, and especially not with a handsy coworker. This is none of my business.
"Goddamn that waiter is serving looks tonight." Johnson slurred.
"I really don't think we're supposed to touch the hosts-"
"It's just a bit of fun. Besiiiides, when they're dressed like that, how do they expect us to act any different?"
I put my hand down on the table. "Johnson, I think it's time we go."
"Not yet, I wanna see that porcelain doll again." He caught sight of Kurapika as he was walking toward us. "God, what I would give to absolutely RAIL-"
I stood up suddenly, cutting him off. "You need to leave."
"Would you like your check?" Kurapika asked timidly.
"There you are." Johnson reached out to touch him but I slapped his hand away. "Leorio? What are you-"
I was embarrassed and angry. How had I stooped so low as to be friends with this kind of scum? "Cmon, sunshine. Let's go."
I ushered Kurapika to the back, where the other waiters were. I opened my mouth to apologize, but I was cut off by his arms wrapping around me.
"You need to get out of here." He whispered. "You're running out of time."
"I know, I know." I gushed. "I should've left when you told me. I'm so sorry Johnson was here, I swear I'll cut off his fingers. He shouldn't have touched you like that!"
"It's fine, now you have a valid excuse to leave. Just go, and be safe."
"Okay. Well, only if you stay and be safe." I bargained. I pulled away and smiled at him. "I'm proud of you, y'know. You and your little mafia gig."
"Thanks. But I'm serious, you need to leave."
"And you need to wear that more often." I suggested, then turned and hurried off before he could slap me.
