HIMARI AWOKE WITH A START THE next morning. Someone was shaking her shoulder gently, murmuring her name and, when she opened her eyes quickly and sat up in her chair, her hand sliding away from Eren's, she realised it was Jean.
Himari groaned, reaching up to place a hand on the back of her neck.
"Yeah, no wonder your neck is in pain," Jean snorted when Himari began moving it around, trying to crack it. Her back was aching, thanks to the hunched-over position she'd accidentally fallen asleep in beside Eren's bed last night and her neck felt incredibly stiff.
"So, uh... did you hold his hand all night?" Jean asked, the corner of his lip tugging upwards in a small smirk when Himari finally lowered her hand from her neck, eyes darting back over to Eren to see if he was awake yet. He wasn't. Himari looked up at her friend, before rolling her eyes, doing her best to conceal the sunset-pink hue that painted her pale cheeks.
"Shut up, Jean," she murmured. Thankfully, before Jean had the chance to tease her anymore, the door opened once more. A blond head of hair poked through the crack in the door, their blue eyes wide with concern. Himari waved Armin in, standing up from the seat beside Eren's bed when she saw Mikasa enter the room after him.
"Hey," she greeted the two as she stood next to Jean, beginning to stretch her back out. Jean shook his head at the incessant popping noises that sounded from her spine as she began to stretch. She winced, exhaling through clenched teeth as her ribs began to ache something fierce. Armin smiled weakly at Himari.
"How is he?" He asked. None of them were oblivious to the way that Himari had stayed by Eren's side all night. Himari shrugged.
"I don't think he woke up during the night, but I fell asleep just after midnight so..." she trailed off. Mikasa slid into the seat beside Eren's bed silently, Armin hovering behind her. Jean, sighing, leaned back against the wall as Himari took a seat on the chair at the back of the room, stretching her legs out in front of her.
There was a tense silence that filled the air as everyone waited for Eren to wake up. After about ten minutes, Himari left the room, decided to head to the bathrooms so she could freshen up after falling asleep. Her neck was stiff and her entire upper body was aching, causing her to lean over the sink as she brushed her teeth, trying to stop the infernal throbbing. It was probably a result of being thrown around like a ragdoll the previous day, too.
Once she'd brushed through her white hair, choosing to leave it down rather than tying it up, and had splashed her face with water, she returned to Eren's room, seeing that no one had moved.
Eren didn't wake up for another hour. By the time he finally stirred, the sun was well high in the sky and Himari was much more awake than she had been earlier. To pass the time, she'd been counting the bricks on the wall opposite her. She'd reached seven-hundred and eighty-nine when Eren finally woke.
