DESPITE THE WORDS SHE HAD SPAT AT FLOCH, his warning had planted unease inside her that had settled deep into her bones. Had it not been for her mother, who was still under house arrest, Himari would have saddled Cisco and rode out to warn Levi herself, despite knowing well that he was more than capable of handling his own.
She didn't trust Zeke - it was merely common knowledge to anyone who had ever interacted with Himari. But, now, she trusted Floch and Eren less. Eren had gone to great lengths to get what he had wanted and Himari wouldn't put it past him to put them in danger once again just to achieve whatever goals he had. That fact left a sour taste in her mouth and her expression was bitter as she returned to her office for the evening.
Himari's hand absentmindedly fell to her left ring finger, where her engagement ring had once sat. There was a momentary jolt in her stomach at the lack of metal that met her fingertips, before she remembered what she had done with it. She sighed heavily to herself, raking her hand through her hair as she pushed open the door to her office. She turned to shut it, a frown twisting her lips and kneading her eyebrows together, but a black boot wedged itself between the door and the frame before she could close it.
Himari's eyes slid up and she blinked, momentarily surprised at who had caught her before she could barricade herself in her office for the night. The three members of her squad - the ones that hadn't been killed or gone totally awry - stood in front of her in a line, the two girls supporting Rune, who was still hobbling around on crutches, thanks to his healing bullet wound. Surma stood behind them, looking particularly unnerved in a way that made that unease churn in Himari's gut.
"What are you four doing here? Is everything okay?" She pushed the door open, allowing the three kids into her office. She watched as Lili pulled a chair over to the desk for Rune, who sat down in it with a quiet thank you. Lili and Johanna took the two seats on either side of them, the trio unnaturally quiet and particularly pale in the face. Surma hovered behind them again, silent and still with his arms folded over his chest.
"Is it true?" Rune asked quietly. "Have Louise and Elsa been arrested?"
Himari was silent for a moment, before she sighed and lowered herself into her seat on the opposite side of the desk from them.
"Not arrested," she said, despite knowing that she was lying through her teeth. "Just... detained, while we decide how to punish them for leaking private information to the press."
Johanna looked crestfallen, wrapping her arms protectively around her front as she hunched over in her chair.
"You'd think after Uwe died, Elsa would..." she trailed off, shaking her head sadly. Himari pressed her lips together, understanding all too well what the girl was trying to say.
