"What are they doing?" the girl asked sitting in the passenger seat of her Uncle's blue truck, the rain started to fall as they drove away from the smoothie shop.
She watched two boys in their swim trunks with surfboards in hand, heading towards the raging water of the ocean.
Oh what she'd give to go surfing, somehow
she still hadn't been since she moved."There's no way that's safe," she continued to watch the two get into the water and on their boards.
Brenna may had climbed to the top of an abandoned rollercoaster once but she wouldn't even dare go in the water in this weather.
"It's what the teens do around here, would you believe me if I told you, your mom and her friends used to do that? Surf the surge," Freddie explained as he continued to drive.
"You're kidding!" her mouth hung open as she turned to look at her Uncle.
Brenna knew her mom was a cool chick but surfing in this weather?
Her mom used to take Brenna to kindergarten in go-go boots and bright patterned sweaters. Her mom raised her on Stevie Nicks and Queen. Her mom was a hippie chick mixed with rocker chick. Everything Brenna wanted to be but was too scared to be.
The two pulled up to the big, two story, seven room, cream painted house. They parked in the garage next to their three other cars, just another thing they didn't need but bought to keep up with the Cameron's.
"Oh thank goodness! You two had me worried sick!" Jessie cried out when Brenna and Freddie entered the living, both carrying boxes full of paper work from the Twisted Mango.
"Oh come on Jes! It's just some rain," Freddie smiled as he set the box on the dinning room table, Brenna followed his lead.
Freddie, just like his sister had grown up in the Outer Banks, he was used to this weather, unlike Jessie who grew up in the heart of New York city.
"On the news they're saying it's growing, I didn't want you two stuck out there!" the blonde man exclaimed wrapping his husband in a hug.
"Well we're home now, and safe," Freddie smiled giving Jessie a kiss.
"Come on! I'm still here!" Brenna wined jokingly, covering her eyes with her hand.
"Oh come here you!" Jessie smiled over at the teen, opening his arms, where she slid in, hugging her Uncles.
"I love you both," Brenna closer her eyes in the hug.
Since loosing her best friend and mother she felt the need to tell her Uncle's she loved them more often, even though they knew she loved them, but both men knew she was hurting.
They had helped raise her, she was basically their child as well. They interrogated her first boyfriend, they took her on her first roller coaster, they even tried to help her with her period.
And even though her mother knew everything about her daughter, sometimes Brenna still would go to her Uncles when she was too sacred tell her mom something. They were the only male role models in her life.
