"How did you know?" Kiara asked, hours later while the two girls sat on the porch of the Carrera's just like they had the night of midsummers.

"When he took off his glasses I could just see something in his eyes I had seen in Rafe before," Brenna confessed, looking up at Kiara, this time Brenna laid with her head in Kiara's lap, as the curly haired girls fingers ran through her waves.

"You and Rafe were pretty close huh?"

"More than I'd like to admit," Brenna sighed, looking back out at the street lights.

Kiara let out a deep breath, before rubbing her hand up and down Brenna's arm, the sleeve of her shirt rising.

"What the hell?" Kiara whispered.

"What?" Brenna asked sitting up worried.

"Your arm!" Kiara said, lifting up the sleeve of Brenna's shirt.

"Shit," Brenna mumbled, trying to push her sleeve back down.

"I'm fine, Kie," Brenna tired to reassure the girl.

"Who did it?" Kiara looked right at Brenna, searching for the answer.

"I ran into a wall earlier," Brenna shrugged.

"Who did it?" Kiara repeated, not believing a word leaving Brenna's mouth, "Was it Freddie? I know he's pissed at you"

"Freddie would never hurt me!" Brenna sounded offended.

"Then who did it," Kiara stated. Brenna pushed herself off the bench, walking away from Kiara.

"Ren!" Kiara called after her, following her.

"Stop, just talk to me!" Kiara begged, "Why won't you ever just talk to me?"

"Because, Kie, not everything is fixed with talking," Brenna stopped, turning towards the curly haired girl, "Some things just don't need to be talked about!"

Kiara didn't know what to say, she was taken back by Brenna raising her voice. Brenna pushed her hair out of her face and turned away, heading towards her house across the street.

The next day Brenna had to work at the Twisted Mango by herself, her Uncles dealing with other things.

"John B?" Brenna squinted out at the street while she watered the plants out front of the shop.

"John B!" she shouted waving her hand, he looked over at her but kept walking.

"You okay?" she asked jogging towards him, he looked annoyed and mad.

"Hey, hey, what's up?" she asked once she was able to stop him, her hand on his shoulders.

"I have to go, I can't talk," was all he said before pushing past her.

"Dude, what the hell happened? Talk to me!" she called after him.

He stopped and turned back to her, "Ward, he did it, he killed my dad, he knows about the gold!"
