(PART ONE/SEASON ONE)

Present Day

Ivy awoke with a long stretch, peeling her long black hair out of her face so she could wipe the sleep from her eyes. She turned to look at the digital clock on her nightstand and groaned. Why was she awake at 8am on a Saturday? Instead of going back to sleep, she forced herself out of bed and slipped on a pair of black pajama pants. Stumbling to the small kitchen, she poured herself a glass of iced coffee and slapped around the counter until she found her pack of cigarettes. She took one out, slid on a sweater and headed outside with her coffee in hand.

Lighting her cigarette, she leaned up against her apartment door to people watch as she always did, and she was not disappointed. Her neighbor, Johnny Lawrence, was walking across the parking lot with his trash. To anyone else, he was just a normal looking guy, but to Ivy, he was a slice of sunshine. His toned muscles, golden hair and kind blue eyes set in a worn face gave her butterflies every time she saw him. She dared not tell a soul though, especially Johnny himself, for she was still a junior in high school, and he was old enough to be her dad. Smoke trailed from her lips as she watched him.

Just as he slammed the dumpster shut, a younger Latino boy approached him. Ivy watched on in amusement, knowing Johnny didn't like to converse with anyone. Still, the boy tried, introducing himself and asking a few questions, but it was all in vain. Johnny waved him away, all but telling him off. The boy looked disappointed, and Ivy knew she shouldn't have said anything, but she couldn't help herself.

"Hey, kid! Don't take it personally. Pretty boy doesn't like people." She said with a smirk as she flicked some ash to the ground.

Both turned to her in surprise, and her heart skipped a beat when Johnny locked eyes with her. For a moment, it almost seemed like his eyes lusted for her, but before she could even blink, his face turned back to its normal scowl.

"I told you to stop calling me that." He snapped at her.

"Don't act like the compliment doesn't boost your ego, old man." She shrugged in an attempt to recover.

"Whatever." Johnny grumbled, shaking his head as he walked away to his candy apple red Firebird.

Both Ivy and the new boy watched him peel out of the parking lot angrily. Ivy rolled her eyes and took a sip of her coffee before the boy turned and made his way towards her.

"Why is he so angry?" he asked.

"Who knows?" Ivy scoffed, "He's always been that way."

"Oh." The boy shifted uncomfortably, "Well, um, I'm Miguel. Just moved in recently. Guess that makes us neighbors."

"So it does. I'm Ivy." She moved her coffee to her other hand to shake his. He shook her hand and then stood there awkwardly. Ivy rose her eyebrow and flicked her cigarette butt into the parking lot, "You, uh, wanna come in and chill for a bit?"

"Oh, um, sure." He laughed shyly, "That is, if your parents don't mind."

Ivy cringed at the word parents, but quickly shook it off.

"I'm sure they won't mind." She said darker than she intended to.

Miguel gave her an odd look as she opened the door and ushered her inside.

The apartment was small with minimal furnishings. Band posters and Funko Pop figures on shelves littered the walls, and last night's meal lay picked through on the coffee table. Ivy moved to the kitchen to set her coffee down on the counter as Miguel took in his surroundings.
