The next day, Eli made a point to stand next to Ivy on the mats. It made her nervous, but she reminded herself that this was still Eli- her friend- and that the only thing that had changed was his appearance. Thankfully, Johnny started class right away, giving her something else to focus on.
"Fighting positions!" Johnny ordered.
Everyone moved and Johnny walked through to inspect their postures. He stopped at Eli to kick his legs apart, widening his stance.
"Stabilize you base, Hawk." Johnny stood next to him to demonstrate, "Keep your balance forward in case you want to strike."
"Yes, Sensei!" Eli nodded and tried out a punch in his new stance.
When Johnny was satisfied, he turned to look over more kids and the kid right next to him flinched out of his way.
"Did you just flinch, virgin?" Johnny asked and hovered over him, but the kid didn't answer.
The look on Johnny's face changed, like he had realized something, and he moved to another kid to test his theory. He lifted his arms up quick, and that kid flinched too.
"Holy shit, we got a room full of flinchers!" Johnny's eyes widened.
"Yes, Sensei!" the room agreed.
"That was not a question!" Johnny shouted at them, "Raise your hand if you've never been punched in the face!"
With the exception of Miguel, Ivy and Aisha, everyone raised their hands.
"Put your hands down!" Johnny snapped, "All your lives you've been avoiding fights, so you don't break your nose, or lose a tooth, and this concussion nonsense! So, there's only one solution, and that is before you leave this Dojo each and every one of you is going to take a punch, very hard, to the face. Miss Robinson! Miss Taylor! Line them up! Unflinch this group."
"Yes, Sensei!" Aisha answered.
"Wait a minute." Ivy let out a laugh as Johnny turned to her, "You just want me to stand here and punch these kids?"
"That's what I said. Get on it!" Johnny barked.
As he left to his office, Aisha moved to the front and chose her first victim. He nodded to show he was ready, and she wound up before wailing on him. There was the sound of contact, and then the kid was holding his nose and Aisha was shaking her hand. Ivy burst out laughing.
"MISS TAYLOR!" Johnny shouted from the back.
"I'm sorry, Sensei!" she called back as she composed herself, "Alright, who's first?"
"M-me I guess." A short blonde kid with glasses took a step forward.
"Give your glasses to someone." Ivy told him.
He removed his glasses with shaky hands and gave them to the kid behind him. Before he had time to react, Ivy shot her arm forward and nailed him in the nose. He fell to the mat with a groan.
"Shake it off." Ivy smirked, "Next!"
She and Aisha took turns hitting the rest of the students as the Dojo filled with yelps, groans and a little bit of blood. Soon there were only two people left, and Eli chose to stand in front of Ivy.
"Oh come on, that's not fair!" Ivy huffed, "I don't want to hit you!"
"As your school boyfriend, I'm ordering you." He smirked, "Hit me."
