The next morning, while smoking her usual cigarette, Ivy noticed a familiar elderly man letting himself into Johnny's apartment. He was short and fat, with deeply slit eyes and skin that reminded her of the pages of a really old book. The only thing new about him was the crisply pressed navy-blue suit, the only attire she had ever seen him wear. She had no idea who the man was, but she knew whenever he visited, Johnny was real pissy for the rest of the day. She tossed her cigarette to the ground with a sigh. After the night they had last night, Johnny didn't need this.

With a quiet click, she let herself back into the apartment and made her way to the fridge. She pushed passed condiments and leftovers to look for her iced coffee, but there was none. She slammed the fridge shut with a scowl. Looks like she'd be going out today.

After dressing in a plain black hooded sweatshirt and jeans, she brushed her hair back into a messy bun and swiped on some eyeliner. She stomped into her black chucks as she walked and shoved her wallet and phone into her back pockets before she reached the door.

Outside, she could see Miguel arguing with Johnny near the entrance. It looked a bit heated, and part of her wanted to go and help Miguel. With a shake of her head, she decided against it. It wasn't really her business anyways, and if Miguel wanted her involved, he'd tell her about it later.

After stopping at the mini mart to buy a couple of cartons of premade iced coffee, she decided to go a few streets over and treat herself to a fresh iced coffee from Starbucks. There was a long line of uppity soccer moms and vapid high school cheerleaders all waiting to order, and she rolled her eyes as she joined them in line. Why did California have to be such a stereotype? She never had to deal with this kind of crap back in Wisconsin.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, she got her iced coffee. Fed up with the huge crowd, she pushed her way through and slipped out the door, inhaling the fresh air once she was back outside. She took a big gulp of her coffee and looked around. The sun was shining in a clear blue sky and the breeze was just perfect. If she wasn't still so crabby from the night before, she might have gone for a walk to enjoy the nice weather. Alas, she just wasn't in the mood today, so she turned to head back home.

As she walked, the felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She stopped to take another sip of coffee as she fished the phone from her pocket, but she never got to see why it had vibrated. A boy on a skateboard came out of nowhere and crashed into her with the weight of a brick wall. She flew backwards, her phone clattering and her coffee splashing to the ground as she landed on her back with a loud thud. A groan escaped her lips as the wind was knocked out of her, and she laid her head back on the sidewalk in defeat.

"Holy shit! I'm sorry!" the boy gasped, bending down to see if she was okay.

Ivy looked up to see a handsome boy about her age. He had long brown hair that was neatly tied back into a ponytail with tan skin that stretched comfortably over toned muscles. His light green eyes stared down at her with worry, and she couldn't break his gaze. She could have sworn she had seen eyes like those before, but she couldn't place their familiarity. Still, they had her spellbound.

"Are you alright?" he asked, offering her his hand to help her up.

"I...I'm fine." She mumbled.

She ignored his hand and stood up on her own, avoiding any more eye contact with him.

"Are you sure? You don't want to exchange insurance information?" he asked with a chuckle.

The lightness in his voice made her look up, and she was met by his wide, gorgeous smile. Butterflies rushed through her chest, causing her cheeks to turn a light shade of red.
