Before they knew it, the day of prom had arrived, and Ivy was in her bedroom getting ready with her grandma while her grandpa waited in the living room.

After Miguel and Johnny had played hooky the other day, Miguel had stopped by to explain what happened. He and Johnny had had a heart to heart that left them in tears, and they seemed to have finally reached an understanding. Sam had shown up shortly after that wanting to train with them, so Johnny decided to get them both started on learning a special kick. When the training was done, Sam had asked Miguel to the prom, and this was the part he had been most excited about, because he was dying to have just one normal night as a teenager.

As Ivy looked herself over in the mirror, she couldn't help but share in his excitement. She had chosen a floor length, emerald green gown with a corset top and a flowy skirt. Her hair was half up and half down like an Elvish princess, and she wore the One Ring necklace and the pink diamond ring that Eli had given her. She topped it off with a pair of glittering green heels, and then she let her grandma do her make-up, light but smokey. Now in the mirror, her grandma stepped to her side to admire her, and her eyes suddenly widened.

"Ivy Rose...what is on your chest?" she growled, her eyes narrowing.

"What do you mean? You know I have a scar from-" Ivy reached up to her chest and then gasped, "Oh, you mean the tattoo..."

"A tattoo?" her grandma nearly screeched, "Charles! Get in here!"

"What's going on? Where's the fire?" her grandpa rushed in, gripping the door frame to support himself.

"Your granddaughter has a tattoo!" her grandma hissed at him.

"Is that all? I thought there was an actual emergency." Her grandpa groaned and rolled his eyes, "I saw it after she got injured. It's not a big deal, Caroline."

"Not a big deal?" her grandma sputtered, "She's only seventeen!"

"So what?" her grandpa shrugged, "That's around the same age I got my army tattoo. It's nothing, Caroline, just settle down."

"Just settle...ugh!" her grandma huffed, "You two are just insufferable!"

"You look real nice, sweet pea, like a real-life princess." Her grandpa smiled at her, downplaying his wife's outburst.

"Thanks, grandpa." Ivy grinned through a blush.

He nodded to her and then gave her grandma a look before he left to go sit back down in the living room. Her grandma let out a long sigh, turning to look back at Ivy in the mirror.

"You do look really nice, and I suppose the tattoo is at least tasteful." Her grandma said gently, "But a name, Ivy? That's permanent."

"That's why it's over my heart, because I'll love him always." Ivy said confidently, "He has my name on him too, it's not one sided."

"You know, your grandpa and I are high school sweethearts too." Her grandma gave her a small smile, "It's a wonderful thing to be able to spend your whole life with the one you love. I hope you are able to share the same thing with Eli."

"Me too." Ivy smiled back.

Her grandma put her arms on her shoulders to look her over in the mirror one more time.

"I brought something for you." She said quietly.

She moved over to the nightstand to rummage through her purse, then walked back over to her with a tiny black box in hand. She opened the box to reveal a pair of teardrop shaped emerald earrings, and Ivy's eyes widened in surprise.
