They got up early enough the new morning where they could have a proper breakfast. Ivy made some eggs and toast with orange juice, and they sat at the kitchen counter to eat.
"Looks good on you." Eli motioned to the ring as he filled his mouth with eggs.
"It is very pretty." She agreed, "I don't know if I should wear it to karate though."
"Why, are you embarrassed?" he gulped down some orange juice.
"No, stupid." She laughed and munched on some toast, "Just don't want anyone to get a diamond imprint while we're sparing."
"Oh, that's true. Well, just wear it today and tuck the diamond under when you need to punch. I'll get you a chain for it later."
"Alright." She nodded, finishing her own orange juice.
When their meal was done, they cleaned everything up, got their stuff together, and left the apartment to go to the Dojo.
Johnny had come out at the same time, and they waved at him as they got in the truck. Ivy grabbed at the keys but paused when she realized that Johnny wasn't going to the Challenger. Instead, he was making his way to Miguel's apartment. At first, she thought he was going to grab Miguel, but when Mrs. Diaz showed up with some guy around the corner, Ivy was no longer so sure.
"What are you doing? Let's go." Eli nudged her.
"Shut up a second." She hushed him, watching Johnny. Eli leaned forward to try and see what she was looking at.
It looked like Mrs. Diaz was introducing him to the new guy, who Johnny did not seem thrilled to be meeting. Suspicious, Ivy kept a close eye on his body language as they talked. Soon their conversation was over, and Mrs. Diaz left with the new guy to her apartment. Johnny hung back just briefly, his face twisted in disappointment, before he went to the Challenger, and then Ivy understood.
"Ooooo!" she howled with a grin.
"What? What happened?" Eli asked.
"Nothing, don't worry about it." She let out a laugh and then drove off.
At the Dojo, they dressed in their whites and came back out onto the mats. Ivy sat with Tory to stretch, and Miguel stood to talk to Eli. As the boys talked, Tory grabbed Ivy's hand with wide eyes.
"What is that?"
"Nothing!" she yanked her hand away with a smile to hide the ring, "Shush."
"That serious, huh?" Tory teased, "When's the wedding?"
"Never." Ivy stuck out her tongue, "It's a promise ring."
"Aw, how romantic!" Tory swooned.
"Just shush, okay?" Ivy nudged her.
The boys suddenly joined them on the mats, and they paired up to help each other stretch more intimately than they probably should have.
"Anyways." Miguel turned to Tory, "What about Friday?"
"Can't." Tory shook her head, "I'm working at the roller rink."
"Great. Let's turn it into a date night." Miguel suggested.
"A candle lit dinner at the snack bar? On my break?" Tory laughed.
"Look, there's nothing more romantic than free hot dogs and chicken nuggs." Miguel smirked.
"Free?" Tory scoffed with a smirk of her own, "Not for you, you gotta pay up."
