Around nine, Ivy changed into her pajamas and snuggled up in bed. She clicked on her T.V and played her That 70's Show DVDs. She had always loved the show, but it took on a new meaning now that she no longer lived in Wisconsin. When the show was on, she felt like she was home.
Halfway through an episode, her phone beeped. Her eyebrow rose when she heard it was the incoming text alert, as no one ever texted her. When she looked at the screen her heart jumped into her throat. It was Robby.
Is it weird that I can't stop thinking about you?
She could feel her cheeks flush as she read the text. Why would he be thinking about her at all? With a deep breath, she texted him back.
Must be nice to be able to think, my head still hurts!
She tacked an 'lol' at the end just in case before she sent it not wanting to risk sounding bitchy. Her phone beeped again a moment later.
I'm sorry! I was in my own head, so I didn't see you. Though how someone as stunning as you got passed me is beyond me.
Ivy's cheeks burned red hot, and her chest fluttered at the words. He thought she was stunning. The news was so unbelievable to her that she struggled with what to do. She wasn't very good at flirting. Unless sarcasm fit into that category, she hadn't had much practice. After a moment she decided to be blunt instead.
What are you getting at here?
The next text came faster.
I want to take you out.
Ivy let out a groan, not expecting his answer. Robby was definitely hot, but she was the weird new girl from the farm state. What could they possibly have in common? She texted back.
I don't know...
His next text took a little longer to arrive, and for a moment Ivy worried that she had upset him.
Just one date. What have you got to lose?
He did have a point. It was just a date. If she didn't like him after that it's not like she had to see him again. It would be no different than before he ran her over.
Alright, one date. Text me tomorrow. Goodnight :)
Her phone beeped one last time.
Sweet dreams ;)
She tossed her phone to the end of her bed, flustered from the conversation. She wished she had had more experience with boys. Sure she kissed a boy once and went on a date or two with another, but boys weren't exactly lining up down the block back home to date her. But maybe things would be different here. With a sigh, she clicked off the T.V. and covered herself up under a pile of blankets to attempt to sleep, though she knew deep down none would come. Her mind was stuck on those gorgeous green eyes and that wide, handsome smile.
She awoke the next morning to someone frantically pounding on her door. Yawning and trying to rub the sleep from her eyes, she made her way to the door and yanked it open. Miguel was standing there with one of the goofiest smiles on his face.
"Oh good, you're awake!" he beamed.
"Now I am." She groaned and gave him a look.
"Sorry." Miguel said bashfully, "It's just that I have some great news and I was really excited to share it with you."
"Well, go on." Ivy let out another yawn and leaned against the doorway.
