Miguel met her by the truck the next morning for school. After the beer with Johnny, she had still felt okay, so Johnny let her go and Miguel didn't sleep over. Today, however, she felt like a zombie, an empty body void of a purpose. She didn't feel sad, just lost, so she decided to stay near Miguel until she could regain her conviction.
Miguel was already in the truck when Johnny approached her. Her hand was on the door handle, but she removed it to face him, not knowing if he wanted Miguel to hear their conversation.
"Hey, Sensei." She let out a yawn, "Don't worry, I'm doing fine."
"I know you are. I came to tell you something else." Johnny shoved his hands into his jean pockets lazily, "Robby gets released today, and if he lets me pick him up, he might be living here again."
"No problem, we made up when I went to visit him with Tommy." She shrugged, "What about you, though? Did you fix things after your no show?"
"I tried, but I don't think it worked." Johnny sighed, "We'll see when I get there."
"Alright, good luck. I'll try and text him later too." She nodded and opened the truck door, "See you at the park later."
Johnny didn't answer, he just gave her a wave and stumbled somberly back to his apartment. She watched him sadly but knew he would be alright eventually. As much as she wanted to make him feel better, she was tired of dealing with the strife between him and his son. With a shrug, she hopped into her truck and drove off to school with Miguel.
"What was that all about?" Miguel asked.
"Sensei just wanted to make sure I was okay." She answered plainly, leaving out Robby for fear of upsetting him.
"Why wouldn't you be?" he pushed.
"Because Hawk and I had a huge argument outside of my apartment, and I told him I was done with him for good." She explained, holding out her bare left hand for him to see, "I gave the ring back and everything."
"Ivy, I'm sorry..." Miguel frowned, "I didn't know the kiss would be such a big deal."
"No, it's exactly what needed to happen. It showed me that Hawk will follow Kreese no matter the price, and I don't need to deal with that." Ivy shook her head, "Besides, like Sensei said, now I can act how I feel I should without guilt."
"Suppose that's true." Miguel nodded.
"This is a good thing, Migi. Now it's just you, me and Eagle Fang." She smirked, "And nothing's stopping us from taking down Kreese, except maybe the embarrassment of being called Eagle Fang."
"Okay, it's a pretty horrible name." Miguel let out a chuckle, "But it's not that bad."
"Yeah sure." Ivy put up her hands to mimic claws and then sneered her best impression of the eagle, "Roar!"
Miguel burst out laughing, and unable to contain herself, she joined him in his laughter all the way to school.
Once inside, Miguel put his arm over her shoulders as they walked, and when she saw the expression on his face she understood why. He was protecting her from Hawk in case he decided to try anything. They walked into the lobby, and when Hawk saw them, his eyes turned to slits and he stood, placing himself in front of them so that they had to stop.
"Oh, you're not together, huh?" he growled, looking them both up and down.
"Jealous much?" Miguel scoffed to taunt him.
