Very early the next morning- Ivy knew because her alarm had yet to go off- she was awoken suddenly by the weight of something collapsing on her and the bed shaking. She let out a frightened shriek, only to be met by the happiest of giggles. When she opened her eyes, she saw Miguel lying next to her with that signature goofy smile on his face.
"What in the actual fuck?" she gasped, "Ever hear of knocking?"
"I did, a lot. But I was too excited to wait." Miguel laughed as Ivy glanced at her clock.
"It's five thirty, you butt head!" she groaned.
"Don't you want to hear my news?" he asked.
"I suppose I have to, since you're in my bed." She huffed and sat up to face him.
"My Yaya was arguing with my mom all night last night, but my Yaya won! She convinced my mom to let me return to the Dojo! I get to take karate again!" he was beaming with pure joy by the time he finished.
"Oh my god, Miguel! That's awesome!" Ivy smiled brightly, "See, I told you everything would work out."
"Yeah, yeah." He nudged her playfully, "So, will you come with me after school? Sensei doesn't know yet."
"Of course." She nodded, "Now will you get out so I can get ready? You can badger me more in the car."
"Yeah, sure, sorry." Miguel let out a laugh before he rolled off of the bed and left.
He badgered her the whole way to school and then some. He was so excited, Ivy thought he might burst at the seams. On and on he went about kicking and punching and special moves, so much so that she could hardly keep up. She looked out the window as he talked and noticed that the LaRusso Auto billboard had been painted over. Maybe Sam would be in a better mood today and she and Miguel could make some progress.
School went by at a steady pace. Only her math class had seemed to slow time, as it was her least favorite. But, she made it through and managed to get a lot of her homework done too. She wanted to be able to go with Miguel after school to see Johnny, knowing this news would really cheer him up.
At lunch, she sat with her boys and Miguel gave them the news. Eli looked excited for him and hopeful, but he didn't say anything. Dimitri was downright annoyed, and he let it be known very vocally. Ivy took over the conversation then and steered it into something they all liked- Marvel superheroes. Thankfully, this caught the boys up in a debate about whether or not Captain America could really wield Thor's hammer, and Ivy was allowed to eat in peace. She glanced around the room as she ate and noticed that Kyler was glaring at their table. Locking eyes with him, she stared him down firmly, and eventually he looked away. It didn't seem like he was up for more bullying after all.
With the school day almost over, Ivy walked into her history class and took her usual seat next to Eli. He gave her a small smile as the teacher walked in.
"Alright, I got good news and bad news." Mr. Woods announced, "The bad news is that I have this pretty hefty packet for you to complete about the Civil War."
He paused to drop a heavy stack of papers onto his desk. The thump echoed across the room as the students groaned.
"But the good news is that I'm going to let you work in pairs." He smiled encouragingly, "So partner up, slide your desks together, and let's get to work!"
Ivy pushed her desk into Eli's as Mr. Woods passed out the packets. Eli looked the packet over and Ivy got out her textbook for reference.
