INT. STARBUCKS — NOON

At a table for two, near the panoramic window at the front of the shop, GOSHIKI and KOYAMA sipped away at their iced coffees.

KOYAMA stared out the window, observing every interesting individual that walked by. GOSHIKI on the other hand, went from glancing out the window, to looking at KOYAMA, and then tapping his fingers on the table top.

KOYAMA inhaled sharply, and turned to look at GOSHIKI, with worry in her eyes.

KOYAMA
Tsu-Kun, you've
been acting weird
all morning, and
now you're not
saying anything!

KOYAMA
What's going on?

KOYAMA
You know you can tell
me anything right?

GOSHIKI
(Nervous)
I know, I just...
I...this is something
that I don't think I
can just spit out
thoughtlessly.

GOSHIKI
I don't want to mess this
up because...because...

GOSHIKI
(Shy)
Tsuru Senpai, when I met
you, I didn't think we'd
get close to each other.

GOSHIKI
We were seat mates, and
that really didn't imply
we'd grow close. I just knew
that I had to spent the rest
of the year next to you.

GOSHIKI
Due to our teacher, we had
to partner up for most of the
physics labs and projects.

GOSHIKI
That's how I got to know
you better, and eventually
we became friends.

GOSHIKI
One day I saw you
sketching in your
notebook.

KOYAMA
(Shocked).

GOSHIKI
It was a light blue
summer dress, one strap,
with a few ruffles here
and there, and small intricate
designs of roses, done by needle work,as you explicitly pointed
out, with a red pen.

GOSHIKI
At the top of the page,
you wrote, something along
the lines of "a pretty dress
for a beautiful girl, and
that's not me."

GOSHIKI
Honestly, I felt bad.
I thought, why would she
insult herself in such a
weird way?

GOSHIKI
And for the first time,
as I looked at you, like
I had done plenty of times,
I finally saw the girl who
would spend countless nights
in my dreams. I finally saw
the girl who would make love
songs make sense.

GOSHIKI
You, you have spent
so much time in my heart,
that every little thing you
do just makes me feel over
the moon.

GOSHIKI
When I saw you wearing
that summer dress of my
memories...at the library...

GOSHIKI
I couldn't keep my eyes off
of you. I knew it then,
that you finally saw
what I saw in you all those
years ago: beauty.

GOSHIKI
And I want to be in
this chapter of your life,
but only if you'll allow it.

GOSHIKI
I like you, Tsuru Senpai.

GOSHIKI
I really really like you.

KOYAMA's throat clogged up as she looked into GOSHIKI's eyes. The tender, loving, expression on his face, was burned into her memory. That smile, that spark in his eyes, that blush dusting his cheeks, that was all for her, and she couldn't return those feelings.

She couldn't, even if she wished not to break his heart, lie to him; KOYAMA felt her eyes well up with tears, and she looked down at her lap, with shame. She didn't know why she felt so guilty, so rotten, so evil. She felt, at that moment, that she was the worst person on earth.

GOSHIKI felt his heart shatter, as the silence dawned upon him, an answer that he didn't desire, but wasn't surprised to have received either.

KOYAMA
(Shaky)
I'm sorry
Tsu-Kun.

KOYAMA
(Sad)
I'm grateful, but
I can't return your
feelings.

GOSHIKI
(Stands up).
That's fine
Senpai.

GOSHIKI
I get it.
You don't have
to apologize for
telling me the truth.

GOSHIKI
We need to go,
I have a class
coming up soon.

KOYAMA
(Worried)
Tsu-Kun...

GOSHIKI
I'm fine.
