CHRISTMAS | ACT LXXIII

INT. SAKUSA HOUSEHOLD — LIVING ROOM — LATE AFTERNOON

The moment SAKUSA's mother laid eyes on KOYAMA, she did not hold back her affection for the young woman who made her son's eyes light up with a joy she fervently desired for him to hold every waking moment.

S. MOTHER
(Giddy.)
Oh my! Look at you sweetie,
you're gorgeous! Red is definitely
your color.

KOYAMA
(Shy.)
Thank you so
much...
um..

The awkward girl glanced at her boyfriend, and he raised an amused eyebrow at her. KOYAMA's heart felt like it had been strangled. The brunette was mortified by the blush that surely slapped itself across her cheeks thanks to her boyfriend's flirty and teasing smirk.

S.MOTHER
(Smiles.)
Call me Ka-San dear.
We're all family here.

KOYAMA
(Taken aback.)
F-for sure! Ka-San, thank
you for having me over.
I brought a dessert to add
to tonight's dinner.

S.MOMOKO
OH OH! WHAT IS IT?

KOYAMA
(Laughs sheepishly.)
It's butter pecan pie but
with a bit of a s'mores taste
twist. I hope everyone likes it!
I only just made up this recipe
a few days after Kiyo told me we'd
be coming over to spend
Christmas with his family!

S.MOTHER
(Laughs.)
Kiyoomi, is that why you called to
ask if anyone had nut allergies?

SAKUSA
(Nods.)
I already knew that nobody in
the family had a nut allergy, but
(Teasing.) my silly girl over here would
not let me off the hook if she didn't
hear that for herself.

KOYAMA
(Pouts.)
Hey! a crucial part of baking or
cooking is making sure everyone
will make it out alive afterwards!

SAKUSA
(Side hugs her.)
Hey, don't get all rowdy.
I'm messing with you.
(Pinches her cheek.)

During the entire exchange, SAKUSA noted that his father had been silently observing him and his girlfriend. If KOYAMA noticed this, she gave away no sign of discomfort, and that was enough to put SAKUSA at ease. He'd worry about his father later, for now, he was glad to see that his mother and his sister were enamored with KOYAMA. The bonus being that even FUJI seemed to be treating KOYAMA like a little sister.

A minute later, another kind of guests started trickling in. KOYAMA was glad to see a familiar face when the KOMORI family arrived.

KOMORI
Hey Koyama-San! It's nice to see
you again, it's only been what?
Twenty-four hours since we
last saw each other right?
(Laughs.)

KOYAMA
Hi Komori-san! I'm glad
to see you again as well!
You're the only other
familiar face here right now.

KOMORI
Oh, let me introduce you
to my sisters!

KOMORI
This is my older sister Reishi and
my younger sister over here is Hayami.

The girls smiled at KOYAMA with sparkles in their eyes.

K.REISHI
Aaaah! Koyama-Chan it's so nice to
finally meet you! How did our cousin
Kiyoomi even win you over?! I
was so surprised when he said the
two of you were roommates,
but now, you're his girlfriend?
Wow!

KOYAMA
I've heard a lot about
you too Komori-Chan.
Anytime you wish to stop
by Sakusa's and I's apartment,
I'll take your measurements
and make any outfit
come to life.

KOYAMA
My career as a designer has just
begun, but I've got pretty neat
skills so I promise everything
will be of the best quality.

K.HAYAMI
Can I get an outfit too?

KOYAMA
(Laughs.)
Of course, the invitation   
is for you too Hayami-Chan.

K.HAYAMI
(Happy.)
YES!

KOYAMA looked around the living room, noting the absence of her boyfriend. REISHI nudged KOMORI and the younger boy picked up on what his older sister wanted him to do: go look for SAKUSA.

REISHI pulled KOYAMA's attention by clearing her throat.

K.REISHI
Koyama-Chan, do you mind
exchanging contact information?
I'd love for us to stay in touch!

KOYAMA
(Shakes her head.)
Oh no no! I don't mind.
(Pulls out her phone.)
Let me just pull up my number.
Sadly, I don't have mine memorized.

K.REISHI
(Amused.)
I can't judge you, I suck at
remembering people's birthdays.

KOYAMA
(Gasps.)
Really?! Me too!
I thought I was the
only one with that
problem! (Laughs.)

K.HAYAMI
Actually, we should make a
group chat! What do you guys
think about that?

KOYAMA
I'd be cool with that!

K.REISHI
Let's do that then!

The sisters nodded at each other. They needed to keep stalling KOYAMA or else, she'd walk into the kitchen to drop off her butter pecan pie, and only God knew what conversation the brunette would end up stumbling into. Since SAKUSA's father had called him into the kitchen, and everyone else was left to talk amongst themselves in the living room, it was obvious that SAKUSA's father was saying anything but nice things to his son.

They could only hope though that none of those not nice things did not involve a certain beauty standing before them. Because if that were to be the case, an angry Kiyoomi would emerge, and the Christmas party would surely fall apart before it even began.
