SIDE STORY PT. FIFTY FIVE

|TANNER|

"Hey! Where have you been Enigma?" I asked while jogging over to a thirsty Luna. She looked heavily out of breath as she bent to take a sip of water. "Oh-, just- Taking a drink of -Water. Where's Lay-la?" "Back with us... are you ok Love?" She nodded. "Yeah! Yeah, I'm just - a little- tired. Volleyball really- tires me out." "You weren't tired a few minutes ago." "I went on a jog. Heh-, I guess I need to work out more." I gave her a face before grabbing her hand. I knew she was lying but why else would she be out of breath? Maybe she's trying to get out of her doctors appointment. "My dear, your hands are as cold as ice. Are you feeling alright?" Luna closed her fist to feel it. "Yeah, maybe I'm hungry again? I don't know.." "would you like to get some food on the way home? I know how much you like burgers!" She softly giggled. "Yeh, thanks Tanner." I lifted my smile and rubbed my thumb on her hand. Then I led her to the car. "What about the others?" "They wanted to walk home."

He opened the door and got in the car. I stood there for a second, wondering why they chose to walk instead. When I couldn't find an answer I got in. 'Maybe it's cause of the fight? Tanner doesn't look bruised or hurt.. but they probably still didn't want to get in the car with each other.' "Did you and Laurence figure things out?" He took a long sigh. "Yeah." ... "and?.." "and I can't- Wait for Friday!" He said with a strained and fake smile. I tilted my head. "What's on Friday?" "Heh, we get to spend the day with Laurence!.. Just us." "What? -But isn't that the opposite of what you want?" "What I want doesn't matter." He put a hand on my thigh. "You need more friends you can talk to Luna. I know this is stressful but if Laurence can help with that, it's fine by me." "You really mean that?" He nodded. "Anything for you my dear, now what do you want?" He asked while pulling up to a drive thru. After we ordered he took me to a nice seating area outside. I leaned on him as I held onto my burger. He was drinking a milkshake so I guess he wasn't that hungry. I grabbed a fry and stuck it up. "Want it?" He exhaled through his nose in a smile before taking it from my hand with his teeth. "Their fries have gotten better." "Heh, maybe it's because they're not soggy anymore." He nodded in agreement before grabbing his shake. Putting it to my lips. "Wanna taste?" I took a sip before accidentally scrunching up my face.  He laughed. "A little too sweet for you Enigma?" I nodded as he brought my drink down for me to sip. Afterwards I put a hand on his cheek. Bringing him a little down to softly kiss his lips. "I love you my dear." "I Love you too Enigma." We smiled at each other while going back to our food. But outta no where I smelt something sweet. I smelt my shirt but realized it was different. I tilted my head to sniff Tanner's sleeve. And sure enough he smelt like perfume. "Whatcha thinkin about Enigma?" "You smell weird." He lifted a brow before sniffing himself.

For a second I could've sworn he panicked but answered calmly. "Oh! That's just from Layla's hug earlier, don't worry." I was skeptical but Tanner wouldn't lie about that. Would he? I went back to my burger as he finished his shake. Afterwards we got back into the car and drove home. He held my hands all the way to the door but when we got in he felt my forehead. "You're still cold Luna." I sighed. "I'll get a blanket." I went to walk to the hall when he turned me back around. "Up!" He told my arms before slipping his hoodie over me. "There." He crouched down to kiss my forehead. "Now you'll be comfortable."

~MONDAY~

Nothing much changed. But Tanner was getting more and more eager as time went on. Even trying to watch me shower at times. But I think I'm doing good. Sure I still get winded but since I get to stay home it happens way less often.

~TUESDAY~

... I passed out again. Thank god Tanner was at the super market. I don't know what I was doing wrong! I was chopping vegetables for tonight's dinner when I just fell. It felt weird... one second I was fine then the next my vision became blurry and I collapsed. When I got up I drank a cup of water and pushed through cooking. Tanner came home when I was taking a nap. Which lead to me sleeping 14 hours again..
