About a week after coming home from the hospital, I decided it was time for me to return to work.
I only had given time before I had to go on maternity leave so I'd rather go back as quickly as possible so I had as much time as I could possibly get before I was too pregnant and needed rest.
George had to meet at work at nine so he was still in bed while I was getting dressed at five in the morning.
He was half-asleep, opening his eyes from time to time, searching me out in the room to look at me until he fell back to a few minutes of sleep.
As I put my shirt on, I walked over to George's side of the bed and brushed my fingers through the front of his hair.
I sat down on the edge of the bed, letting my hand drag down the side of his face to his neck.
"George." I said softly, earning a small hum from him. "I know you're tired. You still have two hours left to sleep, but I need you to listen to me for a minute."
He opened his eyes, looking at me before he started smiling. He reached for my hand and brought it up to his lips, causing me to chuckle.
"Don't go." He whined. "Come back to bed. Stay home."
"Stay home? Babe, McGonagall is expecting me."
"Cheating on me with professor McGonagall." He scoffed, causing me to laugh.
He lifted his head and placed his arm under it, his eyes locked on mine.
"What did you need to say?"
"Just... I'm going to talk to Elsie about this whole thing." I said. "Hopefully I can get Leah to talk to me as well. I'm pretty sure she isn't aware of the lawsuit yet. She needs to know what will be happening. It's all about her."
George moved his hand to my thigh, rubbing it with his palm.
"I reckon it'll go well."
"You think? I'm about to tell Elsie that her father is suing her mother for custody, but only for custody of her little sister. He doesn't even want to fight for her. It's gonna hurt her."
George pulled himself up to sit, pulling me in between his legs.
I laughed as the back of my head laid against his chest, his arms wrapping around me.
"George, I've got to get dressed."
"I know." He whispered and pressed a kiss to my neck. "But listen to me beautiful... I know this will hurt her, but she's got an amazing mother and she knows you'll be there for her."
I looked at him and he smiled comfortably at me, tapping my nose with his finger.
"Why do you always call me beautiful?"
"What do you mean?"
I chuckled.
"Most couples have nicknames. We do too, but you mostly call me beautiful or gorgeous."
His smile widened and he brushed his nose over my jaw, planting several kisses on my skin.
"You're the most beautiful person I've ever laid eyes on." He whispered.
I blushed and reached back to tug on his hair.
"Alright, let go of me you big tart. I have to finish getting dressed. I got to meet at work in under an hour."
George laughed and let go of me, allowing me to get off the bed even though I struggled due to my stomach.
"It used to be my dream job, you know." I said as I walked across the room to the wardrobe.
