Chapter 33

"Well," Sam sighed as they flew around, "We lost the dragon. Unfortunately, now we're plain lost. Anyone have any bright ideas, speak now or forever hold your peace."

"Hold on, I think I have the map we made," Tucker said as he rifled through his bag. Jazz hummed and looked in her own bag.

"Wait. I think I have... I do!" She pulled out the boomerang. "It's still locked onto Danny. Slow down," she got up. Sam slowed to a near stop as she opened the door. "Find Danny!" She threw it. It stopped mid-air and spun in circles for a second before flying off. "Follow it," she shut the door and sat down. Sam sped off quickly. They were flying for a good 10 minutes before Dash jumped from his phone ringing.

He gasped and answered it immediately, "Danny! Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm okay", Danny smiled, "I'll explain everything that happened when I see you. Where are you guys?" He asked.

Dash looked around, "I honestly have no idea," he said, smiling at Danny's laugh.

"Okay, don't worry. I'll find- ow!" He winced when the boomerang smacked him in the head. he grabbed it and smiled when he saw the speeder. "Never mind, you found me." Sam landed on the snow plains and opened the door. Dash immediately bolted out and scooped Danny up into a tight embrace.

"I'm so glad you're okay," he kissed all over his face, making Danny laugh. "Wow it's cold", Dash said after a minute of the wind hitting him. Danny laughed, "Very. Come inside and Frostbite can give you something to wear," he ushered them in.

Sam stepped off the speeder and looked around lightly. "Looking for someone Daling Darkness?" Ember said at the side of the speeder.

Sam whipped to her and smiled, "You, dummy. I was worried about you," she said confidently.

Ember blushed lightly and cleared her throat, "Well here I am. Now let's get you inside before you turn into a gothsicle," she nudged her in. Sam smiled shyly and followed her in.

Danny sighed, "Well that's just great. What are we going to do?" They had all sat down to discuss everything that had happened. They were currently filling him in on the blood blossom bomb problem. Dash held him close, Danny in his lap, "Your mom and dad were going to try and stop them."

Jazz sighed, phone in hand, "Well as much as I'd love to be confident about them, I can't get ahold of them."

Danny hummed, "Let's give them another hour. If they haven't reached out by then, we'll have to come up with a plan B."

"Oh great one," Frostbite walked over, "Please allow us to be your refuge, for the time being, you and your comrades are always welcome here," he gave a large smile.

Danny smiled, "Thank you Frostbite. We'll stay here a bit longer until we can figure out what to do."

Sam sighed, sitting close to Ember, "Let's rest and relax, for now, build up our strength." The group nodded in agreement.

"Still no answer," Jazz sighed, having called her parents for the fifth time in an hour.

Danny rubbed his face. He looked out at the fluorescent green of the zone, "You guys have to go back. Make sure they're okay." Jazz nodded, "Any volunteers?" She looked at the group. Valerie put her hand up along with Sam.

Ember looked at Sam, "Be careful out there, alright?" She kissed her cheek. Sam turned a dark shade of crimson and nodded. Tucker looked between Sam and Jazz and put his hand up, "I'm more useful there than I will be here."

Danny looked at Dash, "What about you?"

Dash shook his head, "Every time I leave you, something bad happens. I'm staying with you."

Danny smiled and took his hand. "Alright, let's go. I can lead you guys back to our portal," he waved them on.

He, Dani, and Ember led the speeder through the ghost zone, quickly avoiding the constant battles that still raged around every corner. Both ghosts halted when they saw Vlad Plasmius using some sort of device on the portal. They both gasped when the portal looked unstable. "Plasmius! What are you doing?" Danny yelled.

Vlad looked at them with a deep frown, "What does it look like?! We have to cut off connection with our world or we're all doomed!"

"No, but my mom and dad are-", he tried but he was cut off by Vlad's dismissive wave. "Your parents were arrested along with the ralliers they persuaded into helping them. This is our only chance at survival Daniel," he looked past them at the speeder full of teens, "And if I were you, I would send all of them back. They can't survive here as we can. At least not without passing on."

Danny looked back at them then at Vlad again and sighed sadly, "Let them through, please." Vlad backed away and waved them through. Dash opened the door, "Danny no." Danny flew over to him, "It's just for right now. Find my parents and help them stop this. When this all blows over, they can reconnect the portal. I'll be back before you know it", he hugged him. Dash held him and looked at the rest of the group. Their faces all had the same sad dawn of realization that this was their only option.

Danny looked up at him, Dash on the brink of crying, and leaned up to kiss him. "This is only goodbye for now. I'll see you in a few days max."

Vlad sighed heavily, "Children if you will, wrap it up please." Danny glared at him, "I love you." Dash kissed him again, "I love you too."

Dani came over and waved at everyone with Danny. "See you soon," Sam smiled and waved at Ember through the window. Ember smiled softly and blew her a kiss. Sam blushed and cleared her throat, "Let's go." They shut the door, waved one last time, and drove through the portal. Vlad nodded and destabilized the portal. Dani came over and took Danny's hand, seeing the sad look on his face, "We'll see them again soon." Danny smiled and nodded.

2 days later

Jazz had worked her magic to get her parents and the ralliers set free. That being to mold people's minds into making a bigger rally with powerful people. Dash and Tucker had snuck into the building, Dash on the lookout, and Tucker disabling the bomb and draining the petals out of it. Sam and Valerie found the main source of their flowers and burned the fields.

With everything said and done, they headed home in the Fenton assault vehicle. "Thank you kids so much," Maddie smiled gratefully. Jack nodded in agreement, "We were quite the dill pickle there."

Jazz came up and kissed their cheeks, "Of course. Now we need to get Danny back." Maddie nodded, "Right! It shouldn't take too long to get the old machine connected again. He'll be back in a jiffy," she smiled and pulled up to the house.

What they weren't expecting was walking into the house and seeing puffs of smoke coming from the basement. They gasped and ran downstairs quickly. The ghost portal was falling apart and puffing out large bundles of smoke. "No no no no," Maddie frantically typed on the computer. She eventually stopped and sighed. "Without the connection, it overloaded. We're going to have to start from scratch."

"What about Danny?" Sam gasped. Maddie sighed, "Unless we can find another portal, he'll have to hold on a little longer." They all looked distressed as they all thought. "What about Mister Masters? Didn't he have one?" Valerie asked. Tucker sighed, "If he was adamant about shutting portals down, there's no chance his is still functioning."

Maddie looked at Jack who nodded. He kissed her and looked at the kids, "I'll go have a look myself," he headed upstairs. The kids made themselves busy helping Maddie all they could.

Dash sighed, looking at the destroyed portal, "Why am I always losing you?"
