45 - Another Secret Out

Bondita looked up at her Kakasasurji with hope in her eyes, a feeling that maybe things would go the way that she wanted. 

"Get up now Bahu," he ordered. 

She stood up, gulping. 

"Bahu, don't be sad," Kaka said to her. "I know that this truth is very hurtful, but I am a witness to yours and Anirudh's relationship. I know how deep your bond is, and yes Bahu, you are his wife. He married you. There's no grey area here. It's a fact." 

Bondita felt good when he said this. Maybe this meant that her whole life was not really a lie. 

"Kakasasurji," Bondita said, "Can I ask you something?" 

"Yes Bahu, you can ask me," he said. 

"I don't know if it is inappropriate to ask you," Bondita said, feeling shy all of a sudden. "But I don't think I can ask Pati Babu about it right now."  

His face frowned, wondering what inappropriate question his Bahu would have. However, before she went and asked something to Anirudh that would make him lose his mind, he wanted to make sure it was okay. His Bahu had already gone through so much pain today, he didn't think he could tolerate it if Anirudh yelled at her for something that wasn't even her mistake. 

"Still ask me," he told her. 

"Kakasasurji, when Pati Babu comes close to me..." she mumbled, and she gulped. "My heart beats faster and Batuk said my cheeks were red. And I feel like fainting sometimes -- I guess light-headed, and dizzy. I like it when he comes close. What does it mean?" 

Trilochan Roy Choudhary's eyes widened and a big smile appeared on his lips. 

"Bahu!" he told her, excitement in his eyes, "It means you are in love with your Pati Babu!" 

"L - Love?" Bondita asked, thinking back to what the village ladies had told her about love. "But my heartbeats didn't stop." 

"Heartbeats stop? Why would your heartbeats stop?" he asked her, frowning. 

"When I was at school and getting scolded, my heartbeats stopped and my cheeks were red -- when I was at the village, they told me this meant that I was in love... so I thought I was in love with..." she was going to say Vikram, but her Kakasasurji interrupted her (later she would realize how lucky she was). 

"Nonsense!" he told her flatly. "You were scared and in tension. That's not love! Love is what you are feeling now." 

"So I love my Pati Babu?" Bondita asked him, eyes wide. 

"Yes Bahu, you do," he told her. 

She grinned, happy to hear this. This was the best news that she could have gotten today after the shock from earlier. 

"Then what does it mean to be a wife Kakasasurji?" she asked him, her voice dropping slowly. "Why is a husband and wife different from every other relationship?" 

"The foundation of a husband and wife relationship should be based on love and support Bahu," he explained to her. "Actually, the real way that a husband and wife should be, is to be lifelong friends. Always being there for each other in every state... just like Anirudh has been there for you, and you have been there for Anirudh." 

Bondita grinned. 

"Lifelong friends?" she asked, "Is that it?" 

He paused for a moment and said, "The goal is to become one with each other through marriage. Through your bodies, minds and souls." 

He couldn't say it in more depth than this. It felt very wrong to get into more details with his Bahu about what being one meant in the 'physical' level. Bondita didn't even seem to register this part of his words though.

"But Kakasasurji, is Pati Babu supposed to love me too?" she asked him softly. "Or does love happen one way in a marriage?" 

"He does love you Bahu," Trilochan told her. "Love should not happen one way in a marriage. It should happen both ways. But Bahu, you have to put effort to make him feel those things for you, then only he will accept that he loves you. You have to make him desire you." 

She was happy to hear that her Pati Babu did love her, and Bondita was willing to put in any effort needed to ensure that her Pati Babu would be with her forever! She didn't understand what her Kakasasurji meant when he said to make Anirudh desire her, but she knew that if her Pati Babu desired her in any way, she would be the happiest! After all, she desired him so much too. 

When Sampoorna came out of her bedroom, Anirudh was walking through the hall and noticed a red mark on her cheek. Her eyes were swollen as if she had been crying. 

Anirudh walked straight up to her and demanded, "What happened to you?"

"Nothing," she mumbled, and was about to walk away. 

"Sampoorna Maa, I'm very upset with what you did today, but you have to tell me who did this to you," Anirudh demanded. 

Sampoorna turned to look into his eyes fiercely. 

"Anirudh, it's better that you just let me go," she told him, and touched her cheek where it still hurt. 

She walked away from him quickly. 

Anirudh went to his father's room, fury in his eyes. 

"Baba, did you hit Sampoorna Maa?" Anirudh screamed. 

Binoy looked up at Anirudh with a start. 

"Anirudh," he said, "Please go and handle your own matters. Stay out of what's between me and Sampoorna." 

Anirudh stormed right up to Binoy, anger in his eyes. 

"Baba, I don't care what that vile woman did, it's not right to raise your hand on a woman! Under any circumstances!" he screamed. 

Anirudh's yelling had caused both Trilochan and Bondita to run towards them from the living room. Sampoorna also had come.

"Anirudh!" Binoy yelled, "I'm your father, don't tell me what to do!" 

"Behave like a human first Baba!" Anirudh screamed furiously. "A man does not have the authority to raise his hand on his wife, no matter what! It's wrong!" 

"Anirudh, let it go," Sampoorna said, "Please! I already sorted this out with him." 

"Sorted out? How exactly?" he asked her angrily. 

"She told me why she did that," Binoy told him, glaring at Anirudh now. "And I can't say she's completely wrong Anirudh, after what you did." 

"What did I do?" Anirudh screamed. 

"You were in Bondita Bahu's room all night!" Binoy exposed to everyone. 

"What?" Trilochan Roy Choudhary gasped out loud. 

Bondita looked up at her Pati Babu alarmed. Their secret was out! 

Anirudh felt the colour drain from his face.
