37 - Our Personal Secret

It was early morning when Bondita woke up and noticed that she was sleeping on Anirudh's chest. She lifted her head and blinked a couple of times, not remembering when he had come here. For some reason, a faint blush appeared on her cheeks and she placed her head back on his chest comfortably, closing her eyes again. 

Even if she would be late for school, she would deal with his outburst today. Right now, the fact that he was here with her was something that Bondita wanted to cherish.

When she came to her room last night, she had been sad, thinking that the days they got to stay together in one room, in one bed, were over... but, now she was happy. 

She was so, so happy. 

"Anirudh!" Kaka's voice called from the hall, causing Anirudh to wake up with a start. 

He noticed Bondita on his chest, her eyes closed, a smile on her lips, and his lips also curved upwards to form a smile. 

Her fingers were on his shirt, tightly holding it -- a little too tight. It gave away that she wasn't sleeping. She was awake. 

"Bondita," Anirudh whispered, but she didn't open her eyes. She just tried to snuggle closer to him. 

With a soft smile, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and gently rubbed it. 

"Bondita, I know you're not sleeping," he told her softly. 

One of her eyes opened, causing Anirudh to laugh. Then her other eye opened, and she pouted, still not getting off his chest. 

"Pati Babu, five more minutes," she said. 

He closed his eyes for a moment with a serene smile, also not wanting to get up. 

Suddenly, there was a knock on Bondita's door. 

"Bahu! Is Anirudh in here?" Kaka's voice bellowed. 

"Ye -" she started, but Anirudh squeezed her shoulder, stopping her, and shook his head. 

Bondita gulped. Did her Pati Babu want her to lie to Kakasasurji? 

"Tell him no," Anirudh whispered. 

"Bahu?" his Kaka's voice asked. "Why are you quiet?" 

"N - No Kakasasurji! Pati Babu isn't here!" Bondita responded. 

"He isn't? Then where did he go so early in the morning?" Trilochan yelled. "Do you know?" 

"I don't know Kakasasurji!" Bondita responded. 

"This Anirudh! He always does as he wishes!" her Kakasasurji muttered as he stormed away from Bondita's room. 

Anirudh breathed a sigh of relief and sat up on the bed. 

"Pati Babu, why did you want me to lie to Kakasasurji?" Bondita asked him, sitting beside him on the bed. 

"Bondita, it's our secret that I came here, okay?" he told her, taking her hands gently. "We can't tell anyone, not even our family members." 

"Secret?" Bondita asked, her eyes wide, finding this very exciting. 

Anirudh smiled at her, and performed their inside signature move to indicate that they had a secret. He used his hand to draw a horizontal imaginary line across his lips, then a vertical one down. Bondita grinned and repeated the gesture, indicating that the secret was safe with her. 

"I'll come here and sleep with you every night Bondita," he told her, taking her hands again. "But after everyone has gone to sleep only. We can't let anyone find out about this. It's our personal secret." 

Bondita didn't understand why, but the thrill of sharing another secret with her Pati Babu made her not question this. In fact, she was just happy with the fact that she didn't have to sleep apart from him. 

"Okay Pati Babu!" Bondita said excitedly. 

Anirudh grinned at her and opened his arms, indicating that she could hug him if she wanted. Without waiting for a second, Bondita's eyes lit up and she jumped into his arms, practically climbing onto his lap as she hugged him tightly. 

Anirudh laughed and held her to him, stroking her hair and hugging her tightly. Bondita felt her stomach perform somersaults, her heart beating rapidly as her Pati Babu held her to him. She could feel her cheeks get warm again, and she felt the urge to get even closer to him. 

"Now you have to get ready for school," he murmured, and Bondita reluctantly let go of him and got off him.

"Okay Pati Babu," she said. 

Anirudh, still smiling, got up from the bed and snuck to the door, opening it and glancing outside. He gave a final smile to Bondita before slipping outside the door and sneaking back to his room. 

He only went downstairs after Bondita got ready. She was having her breakfast in her school clothes, when his Kaka demanded, "Where were you this morning Anirudh?" 

"Me? In the bathroom," Anirudh lied, sitting next to Bondita at the table. 

Bondita tried hard not to laugh, and focused on eating her food. She was finding this situation very amusing. 

"Anirudh! Something is suspicious!" Kaka said, squinting his eyes, and looking at him. 

"I don't know," Anirudh said with a shrug. 

Bondita reached to serve Anirudh his food, but Anirudh gently held her hand to stop her. 

"I'll get it myself, you eat," he told her, and Bondita glanced at Kakasasurji nervously. Anirudh continued, "Bondita, you're getting late for school." 

His Kaka shook his head unhappily. 

"Bahu, I'm sorry that you have to tolerate a Pati Babu like him," her Kakasasurji apologized. "If it wasn't for you, any girl would have run far away by now! Nobody can handle him." 

Bondita glanced at her Pati Babu with a smile. She could handle her Pati Babu no matter which form he took -- even if he took the form of Rakshas Babu! 

Anirudh frowned when his Kaka said this. 

"What do you mean nobody can tolerate me?" Anirudh asked. 

"Anirudh, it takes a lot of patience to handle someone like you -- someone who doesn't listen to anyone, and only does what he wants to do!" his Kaka said. "Someone has to really love you to tolerate these habits of yours." 

Anirudh continued to frown, while Trilochan Roy Choudhary watched his Bahu with a smile. 

He really felt like Durga Maa had blessed the family with sending him a Bahu like Bondita, who not only could handle someone like Anirudh, but could also show patience, love, and compassion to him and his ideals. 

She was the one who could make Anirudh bend down with humility, and she was also the one who could make him stand tall with pride. 

Such was the power of his Bondita Bahu.
