Anirudh tried. 

He tried over and over again. After getting the reports from the doctor, he contacted everyone -- from doctors in London, Italy, China and even the United States. He tried everything he could. However, they all answered the same way. 

Bondita's infection was already spreading, and the only way they could save her life was by cutting her leg off, before the infection spread to her heart. 

She didn't have much time. They had to do it fast. 

Anirudh entered Bondita's room slowly, his eyes swollen. 

He only had tonight to spend with her. And then he would have to sign the papers. There was nothing more that he could do to save her. 

Tapur was sitting with Bondita and the two of them were giggling, like there was nothing wrong. 

"Pati Babu!" Bondita said with a smile, "What did the doctor say? Are you convinced now that I'll be fine?" 

Her leg was hurting a lot, but the possibility that there could be something wrong with it beyond normal was not even registering in her mind. 

"I'll go Bondita Didi," Tapur said, and then left the room, closing the door behind her. 

Anirudh went towards Bondita and sat on the bed with her, forcing a smile.

"What's wrong Pati Babu?" she asked softly, reaching for his hand. 

"Nothing," he told her, still smiling, trying hard not to let the pain in his eyes show to his Bondita. 

She would find out what was happening, but until then, he wanted her to enjoy every moment of happiness she had. How could he make her sad for one extra night? 

Anirudh touched her cheek, looking at her lovingly, longingly. Who knew when he would get to do this again?

Something didn't feel right, but her Pati Babu wasn't saying anything to her. She reached to his chest, gently brushing her hand over it and she asked, "Did Thakumaa say something to you?"
