Welcome students to the Voice cohort. My name is Professor Clark Shin, for those who don't know who I am. I am a world renowned conductor and composer, I also am formerly trained in Voice hence why Juilliard offered me this position.

As important as your voice is to this major, remember that there is more to Voice than just singing. A good performer has good technique, and good understanding of one's own body. Hence if you look at your list of modules for your 4 years. You would be learning theories, vocal exercises (practical) and specific languages. Also Voice is not just about singing the words, but really acting it out, hence you will be expected to take modules that help to train your acting skills.

Juilliard also seeks to be more collaborative and cohesive not just within a specific major but across the faculty. Therefore for your first year at least, you would be taking 2 units that will allow you to collaborate and interact with other classmates from outside your majors. For Voice this year, you would be collaborating with the Piano major and the other unit is across the entire faculty. More details will be given to you when you officially start school.

If there are no more questions, here on the table there are pamphlets that would contain more specific information about your modules, and student information for internet access. As you know, the University would not be providing you any laptops so please take your own personal one to the IT hub to get it verified for services both on campus and off campus. If that is all, you are all dismissed, enjoy your remaining 3 days before school officially starts. If you have any questions later on, my email is on the pamphlets. I only need one student named Bae Rona to stay back for a bit, everyone else can leave. Thank you.

Rona was a bit confused why she had to stay back, but she told her friends to leave first if they needed to. After saying goodbye to them, Rona waited for the class to be empty.

Hello Professor Clark, I am Bae Rona. You wish to see me?

Ah yes, Ms Rona. The reason why I wish to see you is that when we received your application, we were really amazed by what you have achieved at such a young age. Also as far as I understand your former high school - Chungah, is famous for their music education?

Yes, our school is tailor for music - specifically vocal, piano and violin.

Correct, so as such, there would be a few modules that you are not required to take. With your results and your experience - it is clear some of what would be taught is actually repetitive for you. So here this is your new timetable, you would not need to take one or two of the modules related to diction and language.

Oh, so does this mean my studies are shortened?

Yes, it won't be shortened by much, just about 6 months because as you can see you are exempted from the Italian and English diction modules and 1 or 2 more modules. So overall it means you will be taking less modules per semester compared to your peers. However what this also means is that the faculty and your professors will have a higher expectation of you, so I hope you don't fail them.

Thank you Professor, I will make sure to look through all the information probably. Would it be alright if I still sit in some of the lessons?

That is perfectly fine, just let the respective professor know you are auditing the module as opposed to actually attending it.

Thank you Prof Clark. Is that all?

Yes, Ms Rona, I look forward to seeing you in 3 days.
