55 | So Hyun

In the end per Seungho's request the group ended up at another cafe, not too far from So Hyun's cafe. They ordered their food first.

So, what is going on?

Rona began the conversation, clearly something was slightly strange about all this. Why would someone just be hanging outside a random cafe.

You were looking at So Hyun right? Seokhoon interrupted the silence when Seungho had not replied Rona. Seokhoon cringed at Seokhoon being so brutally honest. He looked at Seokhoon and saw his deadpan eyes staring straight at him. He knew he had to tell them the truth.

Well, what Seokhoon said is correct.

Why?

Ehmm, the thing is Rona... ehhh.... Seungho was really unsure what to say.

There can be only one reason, he likes her.

Rona turned to Seungho, stunned at this. She noticed that after Seokhoon said it, Seungho started blushing profusely. It had to be true.

You like So Hyun?!

Yeah, I kinda of do.

How? I mean why?

I don't really have a reason for now, I just got taken by her. Already on the first day of orientation, her beauty wow-ed me. I just could not get her face out of my mind, so I went to see what she does at the dance major and when I saw her dancing. It was just beautiful. She was so talented and so graceful that I felt my heart about to burst. Then well, after that, whenever I had free time I would either sneak over to the dance studio to see her or observe her from the cafe. I found out that she actually worked part time at a cafe near campus.

So have you ever gone inside?

Eh... nope. I mean I want to but I know she had a slightly weird impression of me and I am not too sure how to change that impression.

That is true, based on your behaviour so far you are weird.

YAH! SHIM SEOKHOON! Can you not kick me down when I am already like this.

Rona thought about it, she had a really good impression of Seungho and Seokhoon did tell her a couple of things regarding him and she felt he was a good man.

Do you know anything about So Hyun?

No, I mean apart from what I have seen. Nothing else.

Hmmm, well I am not sure how we can help with the impressions part but perhaps I can shed a bit of light on who So Hyun is to you. I like you Seungho, and I think you could be good for her but maybe only after you have all the facts.

Their food soon arrived, and as they were eating Rona shared So Hyun's past. So Hyun, unlike Seungho and Seokhoon, actually does not come from a financially well off family. But one thing that made So Hyun special was that she was incredibly hard working, and this was reflected in her grades at school. When she was 4, she discovered the love of dancing. At first it just began with her watching a few dance performances on the television, but when she was in elementary school, she got the chance to try out a bit of dance during a class time. She fell even deeper in love with it. She wanted to pursue it but she knew financially her parents could not afford to send her for classes or even to dance studio.

So already at a young age of 7 she began to work part time, earning enough money (with a bit of support from her parents) to attend ballet classes. It was not a famous ballet studio, just a simple one in the neighbourhood. But what was unexpected was the fact that she picked up ballet really quickly and her teacher noticed that she had a talent for the sport. She carried on learning, and when she was 9 there was a national competition for ballerines. Her teacher signed her up for it and against all odds she placed 3rd overall.

It was there that she caught the eyes of a few directors from art schools - one of them was the very high school she attended in the States. At that time, they did not offer her a scholarship but as she began to perform better each year at a competition level, when she turned 15 she got several scholarships. She decided to go for one of them, because she knew that if she wanted to continue this path as a dancer - she needed more specialised training. With the blessing of her parents, she came to America.

Even though the scholarship covered her school fees, accommodations and any additional expenses regarding her dancing. So Hyun continued to work while she was studying and/or training. Even though she had a fairly comfortable and well taken life in America, back home that was not the case. She still had 2 more younger siblings, so in order to ease the burden of her parents she continued to work. Sending money back whenever she could, she was always and has been frugal with money.

Even now, despite being under scholarship, she still continued to work. Not just for her daily expenses here in America, but because in recent years her mother has fallen ill, as such So Hyun has taken one more of the role of someone who can bring in the money for her family.

So Hyun, out of us, has always been the most mature one. It is due to her life experience and having to face the hardships of reality at such a young age. It really amazes me, how she can still excel at school, her dance and yet work all at the same time.

That does sound like an amazing woman.

Right? Also one more thing, So Hyun is probably the most observant of us all. She noticed any tiny microexpression one has and she often is able to tell when one is lying. So there is a good chance that she knows you have been watching.

What what?! What do I do with that information?

I am not sure, but the fact that So Hyun has chosen to ignore it rather than address it. Probably means that she is fine with what you are doing, So Hyun, if something is really bothering or annoying her - she has the guts to call it or you out. So Perhaps this is a good sign, the question now is how would you approach her. You need something more concrete.

Seungho ranked his brains but he knew there was hardly any connection between him and her.

Why don't you relax a bit.

Easy for you to say Seokhoon.

What I mean is that school just started. It will take some time for all of us to actually build some relationship with each other, I don't see So Hyun as often so naturally it should be the case for you. Let's wait, maybe an opportunity will present itself in time.

Ohh, what you said makes a lot of sense Seokhon. You are so smart.

Weren't you just scolding me a minute ago?

Yah yah, let bygones be bygones.

But we were not arguing.

Seungho ignored Seokhoon's sarcasm and focused on the task at hand. He was right, it was still early. He can now only pray that something will arise that would allow him to meet So Hyun more.

Note: Hope you like the backstory. Seungho is definitely a bit more of a comical character here (: but that is fun of it.

Kim So Hyun is one of my ultimate favourite Korean actresses, so yes she will probably get the most love from me (out of all the characters). (forgive me for being bias)
