The firework was flying towards me in slow motion. I jumped to the side a second too late and a piercing pain found itself to my leg. Several more explosions went off and I could see all the pretty colors through my closed eyelids. A set of strong arms wrapped itself around me and I felt myself being lifted upwards.
My eyes stirred open at the voices that could be heard even from up here, on the second floor. The room that I found myself in was familiar ; it was my room at Eret's castle. I fully woke up as I recognized the voices. Eret and...
Dream's.
I hopped out of bed, immediately regretting it after as my leg gave way, making me fall back onto the bed. I hissed in pain as I hobbled over to and picked up a fold-up stool and used it as a crutch, guiding me to the door and down to the stairs. I carefully made my way down and hid in the shadows of the pillars as I saw Dream with his arms crossed, facing Eret who was sat on his throne.
"I said I want to see her, Eret, I know that she's here." Dream said coldly. Eret shook his head.
"She's resting right now Dream. She doesn't want to see you." Eret replied. Dream sighed.
"Eret, may I remind you that you are meant to be loyal to me. If I want to see the girl, then I will see her."
"I understand that Dream, but I must respect Y/n's wishes too." Eret argued. I leaned on the pillar for support. "I'm sorry Dream, but I'm gonna have to ask you to leave."
Dream stayed silent for a moment before tilting his head slightly to the side, one that I have learnt to be a dangerous gesture. I couldn't help but notice his netherite ax which was clipped to his side.
"What do you think gives you power, Eret?" Dream spoke after a few moments. Eret stayed silent and Dream took this as an invitation to continue.
"Is it your crown?" Dream started to walk in circles around Eret, who was still perched on his thrown. Dream circled him like a vulture trapping its prey. "Or the fact that your king?" He sneered.
Eret still held his head up high, despite the potential threat that Dream posed at that very moment. I found myself to admire that about him.
"Those who are given power," Eret said slowly, thinking about his words carefully. "Hold on to it."
Dream stopped and I could almost feel him smirking underneath his mask.
"Oh?" He says, amused. "How so?"
"I think respect is a big thing, Dream." Eret said. "And I would very much like to earn Y/n's respect back."
"Oh?" He says again, raising an eyebrow. "Earn her respect back?" He put his hand on his chin, feigning a look of thought "Oh right! You mean, win her back onto your side since you betrayed L'manburg?" He said in a sneering voice. Eret stayed still, not moving and not saying anything. Dream laughed dryly.
"Fine," He said. "Sure, respect is big." He paused for a moment before continuing to talk. Always a flare for the dramatic. "But, if respect is the only thing protecting you from...a knife in the back..." He raised his head to look at Eret in the eyes.
"Respect is nothing, right?"
"What do you want, Dream?" Eret said loudly.
"I have to talk to Y/n."
"I'm right here."
I stepped out of the shadows, still leaning on the chair for support. They both turned their heads to look at me, Eret frowning.
"What are you doing down here!" He scolded, walking towards me. "You can't be on your feet right now!"
I shrugged. "I wanted to see what was going on." My eyes flickered to Dream for a moment and then I looked at Eret.
