Y/n's POV
I could feel everyone's eyes on me as I spoke, my voice loud and clear but I made sure that the fear I was feeling did not show on my face. I knew that Dream was going to kill Tommy. I knew he would. But I also knew that he wouldn't kill me.
At least I hoped.
"This wasn't one of the rules, Y/n." Dream said, clearly in shock.
"Well, since you got to change one of the rules, I think it's only fair if we do too." I said. "Ten paces, isn't it? Wilbur, would you do the honors?" Wilbur looked at me with a pained expression.
"Y/n, I'm not fighting you." Dream said, standing his ground.
"Oh?" I raised an eyebrow. "Is this you forfeiting then?"
"Of course not." Dream clenched his jaw. I saw his grip on his bow tighten. "Ten paces, no armor. Same conditions as before."
"Y/n, no!" I heard Tommy yell. I ignored him. Wilbur sighed and walked towards us.
Me and Dream stood back to back to each other, me trying to keep my breathing even and I didn't have the slightest clue what Dream was feeling, although something along the lines of hurt, betrayed and back-stabbed would probably be correct. Wilbur started to count down from ten.
"Ten." We both took a step away from each other.
"Nine."
I lit the match, watching as the flames danced on the wood.
"Eight."
I got out the fire resistance potion and drank it as I dropped the match onto the wooden floor of the house.
"Seven."
The fire spread quickly and I could hear the screams of the villagers as the fire burnt their flesh.
"Six."
The air around me felt cool, but I knew that it was only due to the effects of the potion. I made a scene and started screaming and coughing.
"Five."
He heard me and came rushing, looking for the house that I was in. By the time he found me, the flames had already made its way to the door, trapping me inside.
"Four."
The doorframe collapsed, blocking me from his view. I drank another potion.
"Three."
I got out my ax and smashed the window at the back of the house and climbed through it.
"Two."
I ran to the top of the hill, watching, mesmerized at the big ball of fire that I had created. I faintly heard him scream my name.
"One."
And I didn't care. I ran and didn't look back, not even once.
"FIRE!"
I immediately turned around and shot an arrow, which missed Dream's leg by only a few centimeters. He shot an arrow at me, which surprisingly missed me by miles. I got the feeling that he didn't want to shoot me. I shot another arrow, aiming for his heart, but he dodged it just in time and the arrow buried itself in the trunk of the tree behind him. I shot another arrow, this time it pierced his leg. He groaned in pain before shooting another arrow at me, which gently grazed my elbow. I shot, yet another arrow, and this one hit Dream in his dominant arm. He fired a shot at me, but it was a weak shot and it didn't even reach me. I knew that he was in a bad shape and I knew that, if my aim was accurate, it would only take one more shot to finish him. I raised my bow, aiming for his chest and he did the same, except he surprised me when he let go, the arrow flying towards me. I knew that the wound the arrow will form won't be a fatal one, so I stood there, getting my aim ready and letting go of my arrow. I braced myself for the pain of the arrow to struck, but as soon as it was going to hit me, I saw a blur of red and white jump in front of me.
I heard everyone yell out and I dropped the bow and knelt down to help Tommy. The arrow had buried itself in his side and the blood was spreading quickly, soaking into his shirt. Fundy rushed over with a first aid kit that he had prepared and started to heal the wound. He made Tommy drink a healing potion, which helped close the hole a little, before starting to stop the bleeding and stitch up the wound. I hugged onto him the whole time, hoping that we would just open his eyes. I looked over to where Dream had collapsed due to my arrow hitting him. However, he was standing just fine, next to George and Sapnap, and in his hands I saw a small, golden item, broken in half.
He had used a totem of undying. That fucking bitch.
I wanted to go up to him and shoot him again but I didn't want to leave Tommy until I knew he was alright. Fundy finished stitching him up and poured another healing potion down his throat. He told everyone to give him some space, as the L'manburgians had formed a small crowd around Tommy, but I stayed put. I was not going anywhere until Tommy had woken up and Fundy didn't force me to move. Instead, he took off his jacket and covered the two of us in it like a blanket. I nodded my thanks to him.
"For God's sake Tommy." I whispered to the blond boy in my arms. "I told you to not try and save me. I thought I would be the heroic one, taking your place and saving you, but you just had to better me, didn't you?" Tommy didn't open his eyes, despite how much I wanted him too.
"So, where does this leave us then?" Wilbur called out to Dream.
"Well, I suppose neither one of us won and we both lost." Dream said. "This duel doesn't change anything. Things will go back to the way they were before today until we negotiate another deal."
I could tell that Wilbur wanted to argue with him but he kept his mouth shut, not wanting to cause more conflict. The Dream Team walked over to where me and Tommy were.
"C'mon. Up you get." Dream said impatiently. I gave him a look of disgust.
"I'm not going anywhere with you until Tommy wakes up." I said stubbornly. If he wakes up.
"Don't you think you've done enough already?" Dream said, tormenting me. I look at him in disbelief.
"Don't you dare blame this on me. This was your fault." I glared at him. "This is all your fault. All of it. And I don't want to hear another sob story of how you're not the bad guy because it's all bullshit." I hugged Tommy a little tighter. "Everything you say is bullshit."
Everyone stays quiet for a while, desperate to see what Dream's response was going to be.
"Y/n, we're going. Now." Dream starts to walk away, but Sapnap stops him.
"Dude, just let her stay in L'manburg for a few days. Her best friend is kinda on his death bed." Sapnap says. "And she'll promise to come back as soon as he's better, right?" He looks at me and I nodded eagerly.
After a moment of consideration, Dream finally agreed. "Fine. But, if you decide to go back on your word, I will personally make sure that Tommy dies, okay?"
I nodded. "I promise I will come back as soon as Tommy is better."
Dream lets out an emotionless laugh. "See, there was a time that that actually meant something to me."
"If you don't trust me, then trust my will to save my friends." I said, looking at him, unblinking and my face emotionless.
Dream doesn't answer. Instead, he picked up his bow and arrows and walks away. Just before he leaves the clearing, he turns back round.
"I'm trusting you, Y/n."
