A/N Thanksgiving is coming up for those who celebrate it and I thought that the perfect way to start this chapter is to tell you what I'm thankful for! I am so insanely grateful for every single one of you. You guys and this story have changed my life. Nearly 60K reads is absolutely unbelievable. If you're comfortable, tell me what you're thankful for before we jump in!
"Alright, now that I have risked my job and arrested Matt, do you wanna tell me what you were thinking?" Noah asked the trio and Evangeline, who were seated on Stiles' floor.
The night had escalated after Matt was arrested. Deaton, who had spent the last few weeks figuring out how to reverse a kanima's 'curse,' drove out to Boyd's cabin to try and help Lydia with turning Jackson back. The doctor left a now werewolf Jackson with Boyd and Isaac to keep him company for the night.
Seraphina and Derek went back home, trying to find a way to break the link between Lydia and Peter, dropping Lydia off at home to do some research of her own. Sage and Scott let their parents know they were staying at the Stilinski's for the night, and they tried to make their way back to normal, whatever that meant.
"Well, do you want the truth or do you want the lie?" Stiles asked looking up at his father with his usual crooked smile.
"Stiles. I don't think we get to decide if he gets the truth." Evangeline looked over at him and then at Scott.
Sage realized where the blonde was going and looked at her best friend. "It's your story, you decide if we get to tell it." She smiled at him, hoping it would ease the nerves she could tell were controlling him.
"I don't think he'll believe us, but he's gonna be answering a lot of questions tomorrow, he deserves a chance to decide how he answers them." Scott nodded to Sage, who started the story.
"So he's doing this because your dad's a major jackass? Wow." Stiles joked, but cleared his throat when he was met with stares.
"We need to figure out a way to get Matt apart from Jackson while we fix Jackson." Seraphina disregarded Stiles' antics, turning to the rest of the pack.
"What do you mean fix Jackson? He can be fixed?" Lydia asked, and Sage noticed the hope in her voice.
"If you can figure out what triggered the manifestation of the kanima, we can revert him back to the shape he was meant to take." Derek answered, and rolled his eyes when Stiles and Scott shared a blank look of confusion, "If we figure out why he sees himself as a lizard with no reflection, we can turn him to a wolf. He'll be like us."
"Him being like us doesn't mean he'll be with us right?" Isaac looked up at Derek. "I know my dad was a dick and all, but Jackson still murdered him."
"He's not going to be with us. This pack has enough on their hands. We don't have the time to deal with his ego." Derek reassured the beta, cracking a small smile.
"So we fix Jackson, great no more lizard boy. How do we get Jackson away from Matt long enough?" Scott asked, hoping anyone had an answer.
"We use me." Sage's voice caused the room to fall silent for a second.
"No." Scott, Lydia, Stiles, and Isaac all said in unison.
"While I admire the protectiveness, name another person in this room that could draw Matt out." When none of them replied, she continued, "Evangeline, Lydia and I will go to the rave where we know Matt will be tonight. The one girl he hasn't killed, is gonna be there."
"How do you know this?" Stiles interrupted questioning her.
"Because I have a phone Stilinski." She rolled her eyes. "Anyways, we'll make it look like we're looking for him. When we find him, I'll go outside and act as if I'm still looking. Let him think he has the upper hand. Meanwhile, Stiles, you call your dad. He's gonna need to be there to make the arrest."
"How are we gonna explain it to him?" Scott was now interrupting her.
"I'll leave that for you to figure out. Now can I finish?" Scott nodded. "I can hold him off long enough for your dad to get as many of his guys as possible."
"I'm sorry. You're gonna hold him off?" Boyd laughed a little, "I mean, not like that. It's just you're very tiny."
"Very tiny and a brown belt." She replied simply, watching as his jaw dropped. "My dad is the coach for one of the most violent sports our town has to offer. There's no way he didn't put me into combative training when I declined playing lacrosse."
"Okay, noted."
"Anyways. I'll fend him off until Noah gets there." When no one seemed to disagree or have any other ideas she nodded, "Let's go." Sage stood up tossing the keys to the Jeep at Stiles.
"Where are we going?" Derek asked from his spot on the floor.
"Isn't it obvious? We're going to kidnap the kanima." Sage helped Isaac to his feet and turned to leave out of the front door.
"Why are we kidnapping Jackson?" Seraphina questioned, but stood up to follow Sage anyways.
"Well Matt can't hurt anyone if we have his hitman. We can put a hold on the killings while we figure out how to stop him from hurting anyone else."
"That's actually a really good plan." Scott agreed, getting up and standing with the group.
"Of course it is Scott. I came up with it." Sage walked out of the door without another word.
"So long story short, Scott's a werewolf and we're apart of his pack and we needed your help to stop an evil creep from murdering more people with his pet reptile." Stiles clapped his hands together as his father stared at him with a horrified look.
Noah looked between his children, then over at Scott and Sage, and turned his attention back to his daughter, "Evangeline. Help me out here. Did he fall and hit his head? What's going on here?"
"Dad, I wish I could say he was lying." She paused as Noah sighed in what sounded like distress, "It's a lot to take in. I know, we all know, but you have to believe us. Sage's plan worked. Jackson's no longer a murderer, he didn't have a choice. Matt's power is taken away."
"But if Jackson killed those people-" Noah started.
"The killer is in your holding cell right now waiting to be processed. He's the one with the motive, he has pictures of all of the victims on his camera, and you can see the hate in his eyes when he talks. He's the real killer." Sage tried to reassure him, it was a hard pill to swallow, but Scott was right, he deserved the truth.
"I'm gonna go to bed, or have a drink, or three. And tomorrow, I'm going to take that boy to the courthouse and pray for the best." Noah turned to walk out the door, stopping in the doorframe looking back at the group sitting in front of him. "A werewolf?" He laughed in disbelief and walked to his bedroom.
The four looked at each other and there was a sigh of relief among the three of them. They knew it was a long shot that Noah would believe them, but they tried and that's all that mattered. Matt was in jail, Jackson was a wolf and not a hitman for revenge seekers. They had righted all that needed to be right.
As Evangeline went off to bed, the three best friends laid in their various places in Stiles' room. For a moment they didn't say anything, they just let the silence overtake them. A peace they hadn't felt since that night in the woods. A peace they wanted to hold on to.
"Hey Stiles?" Sage asked looking over at him through the dark. "The next time you wanna find a dead body..." She trailed off.
"Yeah?" Stiles' voice was laced with excitement.
"Forget where I live."
"Yep."
