Isla fell asleep between Danny and Jessica. Jessica didn't want to take her eyes off of her daughter.
"I can't believe this happened. Danny, I looked away for two seconds and she was gone. How did she go outside so fast? What if.. what if that car past half a second later?"
"I don't want to think about that.. I just want to kill the person who hit her."
"The lady who brought her to me said she didn't think the woman noticed."
"How can you not notice hitting a person?" Danny says with anger.
"I don't know.."
"She's just a little baby.." Danny softly runs his hand over Isla's hair.
"I know and I hate thinking about it.. I'm sure I'll have to watch the tape at some point."
"I just hope they can get a license plate number with the footage they have. That person is gonna pay for what they did to this sweet baby."
Jessica smiles softly. She loved how much he cared for Isla.
There were a few minutes of silence.
Danny watched as Jessica stared down to her daughter.
Jessica softly kisses her cheek before looking up to Danny. "Where were you before?"
Danny chuckles softly and looks down to Isla.
"What?"
"Well I was at the mall with Claire.."
"Oh gosh, was she mad you left?"
"Wellll.."
"What happened?"
"She didn't know I left."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah she went to the bathroom and that's when Sarah called. I just left without even thinking about it."
Jessica couldn't help but laugh. "Daniel!"
"Jessica I panicked!"
"I just can't believe you ditched her. You're gonna have to make it up to her and apologize."
"Eh.."
"What was that for?"
"Well I don't know. She's so demanding."
"She is?"
"Yeah.. I don't know.. she's not.."
"Not what?"
Danny looked at Jessica and thought really hard about how to answer. He sighed and said, "She's just not special."
Jessica nods. "I see.."
Isla stirs in her sleep and cuddles into Jessica.
Jessica smiles and kisses her head.
"She loves you so much."
"I know. I love her too. So so much. I'm so happy I kept her. Honestly, she changed me completely. I'm a better person because of this little girl."
"I feel the same, and I'm not even blood."
"Hey you can't say that anymore!" Jessica giggles and points to his band-aid. Obviously it didn't change a thing, but it made Jessica feel good.
"That's true." Danny chuckles.
"I don't know how I'll make it up to you, Danny."
"You don't have to do anything. I love this little girl so much. It's different than my siblings, I love them too of course but.. I don't know, it's just something I can't explain."
Jessica smiles and reaches over to hold Danny's hand.
Danny looks at her hand and thinks for a moment. ".. Jessica.. I have something I want ask you.."
"What is it?" Jessica smiles softly.
"Well.. I mean we've talked about it before but.. well it's been a while and I didn't know if you still-" Danny is then interrupted by Jessica's phone.
"Oh gosh, shh!" Jessica quickly grabs it before the sound wakes Isla.
"Hello?"
"Hey, I just wanted to check on you.."
"Oh Sam, I'm so sorry! I said I would call you. Everything is okay but I'm at the hospital with Isla."
"Oh no, what happened?"
"It's a long story. Can I call you later and tell you about it?"
"Of course. No rush, just be with her."
Jessica smiles. "Thanks Sam. I'll talk to you later."
"Bye.."
Jessica sits her phone down and turns to Danny.
"What is it you were saying?"
"Uh.. I don't remember." Danny fakes a smile.
