"Mommy, you're not going to the park with me and Daddy?" Isla looks up to her mother while Danny ties her shoes.
"No honey. This is just a Daddy Daughter Date."
"Ooooh! I like that!" Isla says with a big smile.
"Yeah Isla bug! And after the park. . " Danny smirks.
"ICE CREAM!"
"WOO HOO!"
"Let's get out of here, buddy!" Isla takes off and grabs the doorknob.
"Hey wait, where's my kiss?"
"Oops! Sorry Mommy, I forgot!" She laughs and runs back for a hug and a kiss.
"Love you, Princess."
"I love you too, silly head!"
Danny chuckles and lifts her off the ground and onto his shoulders. "Let's go, kiddo. I'll have her back before dark, Mom." Danny smiles to Jessica. A smile that makes her heart both hurt and smile all at once.
"Have fun. And be careful!"
"Later, Lady!" Isla says making Jessica laugh.
Once Jessica locks the door she slowly walks to the living room and towards the stairs.
Catherine sat on the couch with baby Holly and her eyes on Jessica.
"Jessie?"
"Hm?"
"Everything okay? You never skip out on an ice cream date with Danny."
"Yeah. ."
"Yeah I'm not convinced."
Jessica sighs and joins her mother on the couch.
"Talk to me, Jessie girl."
"Welllll. . . Danny and I sort of. . . broke up."
"WHAT?!" Catherine shouts, waking and scaring the sleeping baby.
"Oh shoot! Mommy's sorry, honey." She places the baby on her chest and lightly pats her back.
"I mean. . What?!" Catherine whisper yells.
"Too late now, Ma."
"Jessie, what happened? You and Danny are so happy!"
"We are but. . it's just complicated, mom."
"Why? Did he do something? Say something?"
Jessica nods her head and looks down.
". . . Is there something I can do? You want me to tell my sister to kick his ass for whatever he did wrong?"
"No mom, I told you he didn't do anything!"
"Okay. . . I guess I'm just confused. You and Danny are young, but you're like an little old married couple. You two have been through so much and love so hard."
Jessica shuts her eyes and turns her head to hide her tears. She then takes a deep breath and reaches over for the fussy baby. Jessica cradles her and Holly immediately calms down.
"Oh well mom is just scum when big sister is present."
Jessica chuckles softly and kisses her sister's forehead.
"Listen, I'm not trying to dig into your relationship, all I'm saying is you two are special. You two have-"
"I think I'm pregnant."
