Jessica returned home and tired to be as positive as possible. She didn't want Holly to hear any fighting.
So, Jessica ignored Sarah and only focused on Isla, Holly, and her parents.
Of course that upset Sarah, and her parents too. They are very angry with Sarah at the moment, but it hurts to see their children fight.
Two weeks have passed and things have not gotten any better between the girls. Jessica is angry, mad, and hurt. She of course still loves Sarah, but for now she wants nothing to do with her.
During lunch she sat alone, after school she came straight home. She was grounded of course, but even if she wanted to stay out, there would be no one to hang out with.
Evan has been expelled and since word had gotten around that he assaulted a young girl, his parents have sent him off to live with his uncle. It's just a cover up. They'll send him away for a few months until everyone has forgotten about it, and then he'll come back and all will be good again. At least that's what his parents think.
Today during lunch Sarah once again sat alone. That is until an old friend came over.
"Hey! Can I sit here?"
Sarah gives the boy a look. "Sure, I don't care."
"Well the last time you saw me, you pushed me and laughed so. . ."
"I'm sorry, Sam."
"Eh it's fine. So! What's up?"
"I'm eating my sandwich." Sarah says with no emotion.
"No, what's going on with you and your sister?"
"She's not talking to me."
"Why?"
"Because I'm a horrible person."
"That never stopped her from talking to you before."
Sarah gives Sam a look. "Are we done here? Or are enjoying bullying me?"
"Me bullying you? That's comical."
"Why are you still here?"
"I just wanted to talk, that's all." Sam shrugs.
"You spoke, now leave."
Sam lifts his hands and stands.
"Fine, fine, I know when I'm not wanted. You have a good Thanksgiving." Sam smiles.
"Yeah."
***
The kids finished out the day and are now all on Thanksgiving break.
This year they will be staying in Texas. Since Catherine just gave birth, this of course is the best decision. Both Doug and Catherine's parents, and siblings will be coming over to their house to celebrate. Catherine hoped the girls could at least fake being nice to each other while they were over.
"Jess?" Sarah said softly.
"What?"
"Mom asked me to go to the grocery store for a few things grandma will need for Thanksgiving. Do you want to go with me?"
"No."
"You sure?"
"I'm sure."
"Okay. Well do you need anything?"
"No."
"Isla?"
"She's fine!"
"Okay. I'll be back."
Jessica leaves the room without saying a word.
Sarah sighs and takes her mother's list.
"Give her time." Catherine says.
"How long, mom?"
"Sarah, what happened is huge! You cannot just expect her to be your best friend already."
Sarah cries softly and says, "But I didn't do it!"
"You defended that boy, and defended him until he hurt your own sister. Jessica is hurt, Sarah. Physically and mentally. Let her do this in her own time."
Sarah sniffles and wipes her cheeks. "I'll be back.
**
Sarah walked around the crowded store and went through her mother's list.
"Eggs? Got it. . Bread. . Yep. . Nipple cream? For grandma?!" Her eyes widen.
"Oh Nevermind, that's mom's." Sarah mumbles under her breath. "Okay. Baby section. Baby section, where is that?"
"I might be able to help." Sam smiles.
Sarah gasps. "SAM! Why are you here?!"
"I work here."
"I didn't know that."
"Yeah you never take the chance to talk to me and actually find something out about me." Sam smiles sweetly but in a goofy way.
Sarah gives him a look and says, "I just need nipple cream."
"Woah! For what?"
"It's my mom's, she's nursing and- I don't know, just tell me where it is!"
Sam chuckles. "Aisle five."
"Thanks." Sarah takes her basket and hurries off.
Sam smiles and lifts his hand as she walks further and further away from him. "You're welcome!"
