Chapter 47 Episode 46: Flames and Shadows

     In the center of the audience, the crowds eyes were widened with disbelief as Karma was on one knee, bleeding from her nose while coughing blood. At that moment, Pit walks out of the smoke while glaring at Karma with her panora eyes glowing.
    "You have gotten stronger, haven't you?" Karma asked as she lifts her head to gaze at Pit.
    "You have no idea." Pit replied, "I'm going to make you pay for everything you have done and believe me, it's going to hurt real bad."
    Meanwhile, Cloud, Sting, Govo, Rish and Killer bee were watching Pit being fast asleep on her chair while talking in the act.
   "It's going to hurt, Karma." Pit said, "It's really going to hurt." 
   "Wow. She really wants to get her hands on Karma that bad." Cloud said with a blank face.
  "I don't know, should we wake her? Karma's actual match is about to start." Killer bee said. 
  "Did she truly become an S rank like that?" Rish asked.
  "Yeah." Sting replied, "Every last word on how she became an S rank is correct, but how did Pit find out?"
   "Oh! Oh! They're about to start!" Killer bee said with excitement as she faced the arena.
    Down at the arena, Karma and Dam were staring at each other from a far distance, both maintaining a stoic demeanor while having there arms crossed.
   "Are you two ready?!" Lizira asked.
   "You're the over hyped Kenar everyone talks of." Karma said, "The keillax of darkness. Tell me, what is a keillax to a dragon? You're standing face to face with one who hails from the Dreygar tribe, the strongest tribe in Agaroth."
     "On paper." Dam replied.
   Hearing this reply, Karma's irises glowed in a mixture of anger and  shock while many of the people including Lizira and the chiefs (except Ezgord) tried to hold back their laughter.
    "Burn!!!" Sting's voice sounded as he stood on his feet with his hands cupped round his mouth,"Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo!!!"
   "And i thought his element was of ice." Cloud said with his arms crossed.
   "There is something actually wrong with these two when they stay together, especially Cloud." Rish said within himself as he stared at Cloud and Sting with a blank face, "I just can't imagine a team of Cloud, Sting and Yulin and the kind of stunts they could pull off together."
   "Hey, Karma! Don't forget to add cold water on the burnt area!!" Sting said while still standing with his hands cupped round his mouth.
    Elsewhere as Yulin was giggling, Raen and Idjra eyes widened in horror as Karma was discharging a troublesome red aura while strongly clenching her fists.
    "Uh oh." Reiv said.
    "I'm going to make you regret those words." Karma said with a flouride stare as her irises glowed.
    "Scary." Dam said while maintaining his emotionless demeanor.
    "Begin!" Lizira said.
   In an instant, black ice sprung out underneath Karma and covered her entire body which caught everyone off guard and filled the place with silence.
    "J-just like that, he won?" Yulin asked within herself.
   "Is it truly over?" Lizira asked within herself.
   "At the end of the day, you're all talk." Dam said as turned his back to walk away, "Hey, blondie, do your work and-"
   Dam was suddenly interrupted as a beam of red flames bursts out of the black ice and utterly destroyed it, leaving the audience shocked at what just took place. Karma steps out of the flames and stares at Dam with a cold glare which made the many of the crowd to murmur among themselves.
   "She destroyed the black ice with fire?!"
   "I thought the black ice could devour flames?!"
   "What the heck is going on?!"
   "I don't believe it…" Cloud said.
   "Me too." Rish said, "I thought Karma would be at a disadvantage because of one of the abilities of the black but turns out i was wrong."
   "You're not the only one." A feminine voice said.
   Rish turns to his side and sees the person to be Pit, who happened to be facing the arena.
    "You're awake?" Rish asked.
    "You didn't notice?" Pit asked, "I was woken up by Sting's shouting. Anyway, i thought as well that Dam would have the upper hand in this match but it turns out that Karma is stronger than we think."
     At the arena as Karma and Dam were still standing far from each other, Dam turns back and stares at Karma with an unamused demeanor.
    "Oh? So i guess you've got something, huh?" Dam asked.
    "Tell me, lesser… Who do you think you are talking to?" Karma asked, "Allow me to give you a sermon on what the Tyrus salamander is capable of. 
   You see, one of the abilities of the tyrus salamander is to understand the components of anything it comes across, known or unknown…"
    "And create the flames to destroy it." Karma said as she stretched out her arm sideways and caused red flames to swirl around her which quickly turned black-red.
   Being stunned with the revelation with one of the tyrus salamander's abilities, the audience began to mutter amongst themselves.
   "So powerful…"
   "So that was one of Chief Garou's secrets?"
   "That Dreygar girl is so lucky to have such power."
   "The heck?!" Raen said.
   "I can wager that no one in the academy knew of this." Idjra said.
   "No one." Yulin said.
   "Understanding the components of known and unknown and creating the flames to destroy it?" Cloud asked within himself, "So in other words, the tyrus salamander is capable of destroying anything!" 
    "Dam is backed into a corner!" Killer bee said within herself.
   "Tell me, how does it feel to have all that power, all that hype but when it comes down to it, you're just as useless as everyone else?" Karma asked as she slightly bent her head sideways.
   "Oh no, i'm in trouble." Dam sarcastically said while maintaining his deadpan demeanor.
  Karma quickly blasted Dam with the black-red flames which created an explosion that covered the spot with excessive flames.
  "A word of advice…" Dam's voice sounded in the black-red flames.
  "Don't lump me in with the peons you've crushed." Dam said as he walks out of the tyrus fire unscathed while discharging a small black aura, leaving the audience shocked.
   "What the?!" Hyle said in shock.
   "You see, you're not the first to destroy the black ice with fire." Dam said with his eyes shut, "When i was growing alone, i've encountered some that were capable of doing it, so I trained my black ice to adapt to the flames…"
    "No matter powerful they may be." Dam said as he opened his eyes (which happened to be glowing).
    In a short space of time, the black-red flames that were in the arena were quickly frozen with black ice especially the one on Karma's palm.
    "So, they are somewhat evenly matched." A Kenar woman said within herself.
   At the right side of the Chiefs center, Chief Tenya took notice as Chief Akuro was stroking his chin.
    "Anything wrong?" Chief Tenya asked.
    "This just reminds of a battle i heard of as a child." Chief Akuro said, "The legendary battle between the black ice user, Nydan and the mad dragon, Kyo."
    "Kyo? You mean the Dreygar that was so obsessed with immortality and power that she killed countless Dreygars and drank their blood just to acquire it?" Chief Tenya asked.
   "Legends has it that her flames were capable of burning the skies of a realm but was utterly defeated by Nydan when they fought." Chief Akuro said, "Nydan was so strong that he was one of the few that could absolutely destroy a Dreygar and now it seems that this match is a manifestation of the battle.
    I wonder… Will history repeat itself or will Karma take the win?"
    In the arena as Karma and Dam stood afar while looking at each other with their deadpan expression, Lizira stood trembling at the pressure of these two as she struggled to keep her composure.
    "The presence of these two is just terrifying…!" Lizira said within herself, "Why am i having the same Onak and Xorian thoughts, right now?!"
    "Shall we continue?" Karma asked.
    "Just say when." Dam replied.
     Karma and Dam immediately launched their respective blasts from their palms which led their attacks with collide.
     "Humph." Karma said as her irises glowed.
     Karma's flame blast immediately overtook Dam's black ice attack and created an explosion which left the audience confused while Dam leapt back out of the smoke.
    "Odd." Dam said within himself.
   Karma emerged out of the smoke with the attempt to strike Dam with a face punch but Dam weaves the attack and attacks with a punch of his own (which Karma blocks) and the two began to dodge and reflect each other's blows .
    During their clash, Karma grabs hold of Dam's wrist and pulls him towards her to blast him in the face but Dam kicks her away and quickly sends a flood of black ice to overtake Karma but she turned out to be an afterimage. Karma appears behind Dam to punch the back of his head but ended hitting an afterimage as Dam had already moved his head beforehand.
    Dam swiftly strikes Karma with a knuckle to her face (without even looking) and quickly twirls his body to kick her by her side which sent her tumbling on the ground. Karma stabilizes herself with her hands and guards against a kick from Dam as it was aimed to hit her on the jaw the moment she stabilized herself.
     Despite Karma guarding against the kick, the attack raised her to stand on her feet and Dam began to land numerous punches on her belly and finalized everything with a kick to her chin that sent her backflipping in the air. Karma halts herself while having a red outline glow around her body and Dam appears above her to knock her down with a kick, only for Karma to appear above him and attack with a kick of her own that sent him to the ground.
     Dam lands on his feet and raised his head, sighting Karma in the air with 7 large black-red flaming orbs around her.
    "Dragon's art: 7 breaths of heaven, sevenfold." Karma said.
    Karma's orbs rained down a score of red flames to the ground but Dam quickly leaps far back to evade everything; While in motion, Karma quickly showed up in front of him.
   "Dragon's art: Raging swarm." Karma said as she unleashes a barrage of rapid-fire punches that was creating numerous gusts of wind.
   However, many of the pilgrim academy students (including Pit) became shocked as Dam was evading every single punch that Karma was throwing.
    "No way!" A blonde teenage pigtail Tenplar female said.
    "Impossible…!" A teenage Graundar male said.
    "He is flawlessly evading the dragon's swarm…" Pit said within herself while having her panora eyes activated, "Even i when i first fought Karma, didn't evade everything like he did.
   But there is something wrong, though; his soul… It's as if it is covered in pitch blackness, making it impossible for me to read him. If it were me and Dam that was placed to fight each other in this tournament, I'd have an extremely hard time facing him."
     As Dam was evading Karma's attack, Dam moves his leg to kick Karma's side but Karma vanishes and appears a distant from Dam. While Karma and Dam stood and stared afar from each other, the crowd instantly cheered for the two.
    "Wow! What a wonderful display of combat between the two contestants!" Lizira said, "The dragon's child, Karma, has just met her match in this tournament and Dam looks like he is having little to no troubles in dealing with her! Just how will this match turn out? I can't wait!!"
    "She's observing him." Cloud said within himself, "Waiting for him to make a mistake."
    "What's wrong? Not going to attack?" Dam asked, "If you are not going to make a move then i will."
    Black ice immediately sprung out underneath Karma but Karma instinctively hops back to evade. Karma wastes no time in advancing towards Dam and attacks him with numerous punches and kicks (which Dam blocks and evades). Dam tries to punch Karma but Karma quickly bends over his attack, locks her legs round his arm and threw him away; the moment Karma threw Dam, Karma quickly stood on her feet and released a flame blast from her mouth towards Dam (who was already standing on his feet)
    "Black shield." Dam said with himself as he placed his palm on the ground and created a large black iced shield that covered his entire body.
    Karma's attack made contact with Dam's shield, creating a strong explosion, however as the smoke had cleared, the shield was unscathed by the flames.
   "No effect?" Lizira asked within herself.
   As Karma stood while preparing another flame attack, Dam instantly flew out of her shadow and lands on uppercut on her chin which sent her high in the air.
    "Wha-?!" Killer bee said in shock.
    Dam appears above Karma and knocks her down with a double hammer fist, leaving large cracks on the ground in the act. As Karma laid flat on her face, Karma tries to stand on her feet but was immediately covered up with black ice, preventing her from standing.
    Karma growls and discharged a large amount of flames that destroyed the ice.
    "Resurface." Dam's voice sounded.
    A bigger black ice suddenly reappeared and covered Karma's body, leaving the audience in awe with his display of power.
    "Oh, what is this?!" Lizira said, "Dam is showing who is more superior in this match and is dominating Karma! I knew he was strong but i didn't think he was this strong!!"
     Karma reignites her flames to destroy Dam's ice but it showed no effect on it.
     "What is going on?" Hyle asked, "Their elements has been going back and forth with each other but now it seems that Dam's element is on top."
    "It's quite simple." Izaiya said, "You see Karma's flames is capable of destroying the black ice due to understanding the components but Dam was capable of adapting to the heat of her flames, something i could guess Karma understood, so she kept increasing the heat of her attacks in order to corner him and defeat him but Dam's ice was adapting faster and now she seems to be in a tough spot."
    "So Dam can actually beat Karma?" Hyle asked.
    "I'm not sure about that." Izaiya said, "No one has seen Karma's full power but one thing is certain: if she keeps underestimating him, she'll lose."
    "I remember you asking me a question, earlier." Dam said as he was walking towards Karma, "So i'm going to ask you the same but in a different way."
    Karma lifts her head and sees Dam standing in front of her.
   "What is a mere dragon... To a keillax of the shadows?" Dam asked with a deepened voice while staring down at Karma as his irises glowed.
