Chapter 50 Episode 49: Uncertainty

     Witnessing what just took place in the field, the audience's eyes (including the Chiefs) were filled with horror and disbelief as Karma had pierced Dam in the belly with her fist.
    "DAM!!!" Yagura screamed as her irises glowed.
    "BIG BROTHER!!!" Meeno screamed.
    "What did she just…?" Rish said.
     Karma immediately pulled out her fist, leaving Dam to drop on the ground and bleed out.
    "Karma! What have you done?!" Lizira asked.
    "He is not dead." Karma replied as she turned her back to walk away, "I just pierced him with enough force to make him lose consciousness. However if he is not attended to, he will die."
     "What in blue heavens is wrong with her?" Lizira asked within herself.
     "Call the match and let the healers come an-"
     Karma paused and rolls back her eyes, only to see Dam standing on his feet while panting for air, leading Karma to quickly take notice of Dam's healed injury.
   "Hmm. Healed your injury, huh?" Karma asked, "You really are persistent."
   The audience themselves became surprised on how Dam still stood despite what took place which caused some to muttered to one another.
    "He was able to heal himself from an injury like that and still stand?" A man asked, "That boy is good."
    "Yes, he is good." A woman said.
    "I can see him taking the victory." A chubby man said.
    "Then you are a fool." A scarred face Ripar man with black hair said, "He is exhausted…. He is pushing himself to even stand."
    The statement of the Ripar male made the others to stare at him in confusion, meanwhile at the arena, Karma was staring at Dam with her usual deadpan demeanor while having her arms crossed.
    "Well, what are you waiting for?" Karma asked, "Come, lesser."
    Dam sends shrapnels of black ice towards her but Karma appears behind him; in haste, Dam hastily turns and attacks with a high side kick on Karma but Karma easily blocks it and lands a back fist that sent Dam skidding back, however as Dam was moving back, Dam quickly sends a flood of black ice to overtake Karma but Karma's irises glowed and the black ice immediately shatters, resulting in a powerful wave that threw Dam back, leaving many of the audience astonished with the display of power. 
   "What… What just happened?" 
   "The black ice was destroyed with nothing but with her glare…? Just a glare?" 
    "This is ridiculous." Cloud said within himself, "She destroyed the black ice with just a glare… A glare… "
    "This is just like before at the rumble, when Karma defeated us with nothing but her glare." Yulin said within herself, " Talk about power."
    Down at the arena as Dam was still breathing heavily, Karma was still staring at him emotionlessly while having her arms crossed.
    "Well, I'm waiting." Karma said with her head slightly bent, "If you are not going to make a move, then i will."
   Karma wastes no time in charging towards Dam at high speed and tries to land a punch on him but Dam vanishes, leaving a black shade that froze up Karma's body.
     "Huh? What the?" Reiv said within himself in surprised manner.
    As the exhausted Dam appeared far away, Dam quickly stretched forth both of his hands.
    "Bla-"
    Dam gets interrupted as Karma suddenly struck with a thunderous punch to his cheek that made blood spill out of Dam's mouth while causing the entire place in his vision to swirl, which left the audience shocked.
    "When did she get there?" A Tenplar man asked within himself.
    Right before Dam could fall, Karma quickly grabs hold of his shirt and pulled him close to her.
   "Dragon's art: Armour puncture." Karma said as she struck Dam with the knuckles of her middle fingers on his ribcage which ended up cracking them and made Dam cough out blood.
    Karma quickly grabs Dam's head with both hands and slams her knee on his face; wasting no time, Karma still grabs Dam by his shirt and pulled him close to her.
   "Dragon's art: Iron claw." Karma said as she lands a palm strike on Dam's chin.
    Karma began to land a combo of hits on Dam and in a flash, Karma immediately appears behind him.
   "Dragon's art: Tozenshokun." Karma said as she speedily attacks Dam with a kick to the left side of Dam's knees, to the right side of his cracked ribcages and finalizes everything with a palm heel strike to his temple that sent him sliding at the side of his head.
    "Not even Dam can stand up to her." Kein said, "Talk about one-sided."
    "Yeah, Dam went from barely trying to barely surviving." Reiv said.
    "I don't see how he is surviving at all." Hyle said.
    As Dam was making struggles to stand, Karma dashed towards him with her fist set to attack.
     "It's over." Karma said within herself, "Dragon's art: M-"
    Karma suddenly gets interrupted with a headbutt from Dam on her nose that caused her to stagger back, leaving audience stunned with Dam's sudden response and resilience, but Dam, still being exhausted, drops to his knees and began to breathe heavily.
    Dam quickly raised his head, sprints towards Karma and lands a dynamic punch on her cheek that made spittle fly out of her mouth and began to land numerous punches on her face which was pushing Karma back in the process.
    "I don't believe it! Dam is still fighting back!!" Lizira said, "He's still fighting despite the condition of his body! The resilience of this young man is astounding!!!"
  "No way." Hyle said within himself.
  "His fist…" Chief Akuro said within himself as he observed Dam's blackened knuckles, "Covering your fists with the black ice just to increase the impact of your swings. You are really giving everything you've got."
    While Dam was rushing Karma with a flurry of punches, Karma immediately grabs hold of Dam's wrist and pulls him towards her.
     "Dragon's art: mountain mover!" Karma said as she thrusts her fist so hard into Dam's belly that the audience could easily shape of her fist appearing at his back.
   The attack creates a mild shockwave but also creates a large rift behind Dam, causing him to cough out blood and spittle at the same time while Yagura covered her mouth in horror.
    At the arena, while still holding on to Dam's wrist, Karma pulled Dam towards her again and attacks with a forearm strike on his temple which temporarily altered the colors of his visions.
   Karma quickly shifts behind Dam and moves her body with a reverse kick to pin him to the ground while having her leg wrapped round his neck and quickly covers her fists with black-red flames.
    "Dragon's art: Omuiguyi's tail." Karma said as she rained a series of rapid blows on Dam's face.
   "Oh my! Dam seems to be in a tight position!" Lizira said, "Karma is mercilessly pounding him while having him pinned to the ground!!"
   Karma continued to viciously punch Dam until Dam's arms lifelessly drops on the ground. As Dam laid on the ground unconscious, Karma stood on her feet and turns her back to walk away.
    "It's over." Karlac said within himself, "The combination of her choking and viciously punching him with those flaming fists of hers while he was still reeling, was more than enough to take him down.
   Heck, he didn't even know where he was at the moment."
    "Dam is down!" Lizira said, "Karma wi-!"
    Lizira became shocked as Dam stood on his feet, leaving the audience more surprised. Karma's eyes rolls back and sights Dam panting.
   "Oh? Still won't stay down?" Karma asked, "How unsightly… Loser."
   In a flash, Dam was sent flying and sliding on his back which caught so many off guard.
   "So fast!" Raen said.
   "Even with my eyes, i couldn't see a thing, only the aftermath of the attack." Pit said.
    Meanwhile, Karma stood with her outstretched foot as smoke was oozing out of it while Dam laid on the ground; Dam suddenly showed some life by coughing out and began to make efforts in standing again.
   Among the audience, a blonde Graundar teen with pointy hair and teddy on his cheeks, was sitting beside Izaiya while having his arms crossed as he stared down at the arena.
    "Uh, Izaiya, i know how the situation looks but do you think Dam is going to be alright?" The Graundar teen asked.
   "No, i don't think so, Obaru." Izaiya answered, "Dam's body has gone through a lot of turmoil and as of right now, he is pushing himself too hard."
   "Explain." Obaru said.
  "Weren't you paying attention?" Izaiya asked, "It all started when Dam's black markings wore off. It did take a lot of stamina to maintain that form, which i could wager Dam was aware of, so he tried using shadow pace to buy himself enough time to regain every single stamina and also because shadow pace doesn't take stamina at all.
    If you noticed, he didn't use much black ice attacks in that form compared to before. It's as if he was planning to use a big move in that form but at the same time, he needed to bring Karma down before launching it. However, he failed to take accountability on how fast Karma can adapt and because of that, his entire plan was ruined and it didn't just stop there.
   With Karma's continuous assaults with those fangs, down to the humongous one she sent, Dam's body was broken."
    "Uhm… Can you-?"
    "When Karma sent down that giant fang, the impact was increased on Dam because the ritzku barrier contained it." Izaiya cuts in, "This is just comparable to smoke filling a house and in that type of situation, what do you do? Open the windows, the doors and everything else, so that the smoke can pass through and leave. Failure to do that, the smoke will end up damaging your respiratory system and that's what happened to Dam.
   If it wasn't for the ritzku barrier, no one knows how destructive that attack would have been but because it was contained, Dam took the brunt of it, damaging him even more. The fact he is still alive and is even able to stand is just shocking and to make things worse, he used the ragnoro technique in the state his body is in."
    "Ah, the ragnoro technique... One of Dam's strongest moves." Obaru said, "The technique is capable of sealing away his targets in the cold void for as long as he wishes,even if he completely runs out of stamina… According to what he said. 
    Funny how we use deep tongues to name some things, just like narak means wind of the fallen and ragnoro means demise of the void. However, this doesn't change the fact that i'm Obaru and i'm ama-"
     "Shut up..." Izaiya cuts in with a shaky voice.
   Back at the arena as Karma was landing numerous hits on Dam, Karma kicks Dam at his side but Dam immediately traps her leg in between his arm and side, but despite that, Karma shortly stares at the exhausted Dam and swiftly uses her other leg to attack with a backflip kick to his jaw that sent Dam somersaulting backwards and tumbling on the ground. As Dam laid on the ground, coughing, Zarik was sitting beside the shopkeeper (the one Karma threatened to destroy his shop) while staring down at the arena .
    "I never thought I'd see a black ice user like this." Zarik said.
    "I don't think anyone did." The shopkeeper replied, "Maybe it's because we thought the fight would end up like Kyo and Nydan, forgetting these are two different people."
    "Indeed." Zarik said, "But right now, i can't help wondering who would win if that savage Graundar and the Dreygar girl should fight?"
    "That's a hard question." The shopkeeper replied, "The way this match is going, she is still holding back against the Kenar, so in other words, she is not even fighting at full power and i doubt we would ever see her use it but that doesn't mean we should look down on the Graundar.
   His physical capabilities are incredible as displayed in the rounds he has competed in and on top of it, he evolves but he has two weakness: he is unstable and he doesn't have a fighting style; he just fights like a street brawler and a mindless monster but the Dreygar doesn't.
    However, she too, has her own weaknesses such as her arrogance, her habit of toying with her opponents just to break them and her temper. It's even shocking she is still fighting calmly.
    Head and tail of the whole thing is that she could beat him if she drops her arrogance and her habit of toying with her opponents but if she still retains them, she'll lose and by the time she gets serious, it could be too late."
  "You say that because of how he evolves, correct?" Zarik asked.
   "Yes." The shopkeeper replied.
   "Well, you're not wrong." Zarik said, "When i was using my scouter during the previous round, i saw something that shocked me; kan users have a limit power growth if it doesn't involve training or age but his… The numbers on my scouter kept going higher and higher until it destroyed itself, that's when it occured to me that he doesn't have a limit to his evolution."
   "Ah, i knew it." A female voice said.
    Zarik and the shopkeeper looks to their side and sees an orange haired lady smirking at them.
    "Noya." Zarik said, "Care to add anything?"
    "Well, i knew the Graundar doesn't have a limit to his evolution and i agree with everything the both you said." Noya replied, "You know there is something i can wager; many people thought the Dreygar was observing that Kenar so that he'll make a mistake and defeat him but she wasn't observing him for any of that. She was actually observing him so that she'll wait for the ripe time to show her overwhelming power and break him.
   You know, with what you two have been discussing, there is a part you failed to mention: the both of them are extremely fierce and brutal and i can't wait to see who would win between the Graundar and the Dreygar." 
    "Even though we are discussing about them, that is a fight i don't want to see." The shopkeeper said as he resumes facing forward.
   Down at the arena, a bloodied Dam leaned against the walls while sitting on the ground and as he raised his head, he sights Karma standing in front of him with blood-covered fists while her irises were glowing. 
   "Are you done?" Karma asked, "You know, for all your big talk, you're nothing… Less than nothing."
   Dam still remained mute and continues staring at Karma while seated.
   "I remember when i asked you what a keillax is to a dragon, you said my tribe being the strongest on paper." Karma said, "Well, do you still think that?"
   "You pathetic lesser!!" Karma said as her irises glowed and discharged red flames.
    Karma immediately hurled her fist towards Dam but Dam hastily  creates a black ice wall to protect himself, nonetheless, Karma's fist easily breaks through and connects to Dam's face. Karma immediately grabs Dam by the hair and tossed him away, leaving Dam to tumble on the ground. Dam manages to steady himself with both hands but as soon as he does that, he takes notice of plentiful flaming orbs surrounding him which instantly exploded.
   As the explosion had gone, Dam laid flat on his face but showed some signs of life once again as he stood on his feet only to fall on his knees and vomit blood excessively , leaving the audience troubled with what they were witnessing.
    Nevertheless, Dam cleaned his mouth and stood back on his feet to continue which left the audience stunned.
   "What the heck?!"
   "He still wants to continue?!"
   "This is suicide!"
   "Is he trying to get himself killed?!"
   "He is in no shape to continue!"
    "Somebody stop this boy!"
    "Dam, stop!" Yagura said as she stood on her feet, "You are in no shape to continue! If you go on any longer, you might die!! Please just stop!!!"
    As Yagura was pleading, Dam exhales and began to emit a black aura which left Yagura in shock with his decision.
   "Dam…" Yagura said.
   "You should listen to your mother." Karma said, "Just like she said, this battle is too much for you to handle."
   "I said it before and i'll say it again. You talk too much." Dam said as his irises glowed along with his black markings returning which shocked the audience even more.
    "What?!"
    "What is going on?!"
    "His body… How is he…?"
    "What the …?" Cloud said within himself.
    "Izaiya, what is going on?" Reiv asked.
     "I don't know." Izaiya answered, "His body is broken. He shouldn't even have the strength to even activate that form."
   While the crowd were still in shock, Karma slightly grinned.
   "So you are ready to go one last time?" Karma asked, "Fine by me."
   "This might be it, people!" Lizira said, "It seems they are going to end this fight, right here, right now! Who will become victorious?!!"
   Karma and Dam stared at each other for a while as they were discharging their respective auras and swiftly charged towards themselves. As Karma moved towards Dam, Karma immediately threw a flame blast from her palm but Dam vanishes and appears behind her.
    "You're becoming too predictable!" Karma said as she quickly turns to punch Dam but Dam vanishes from that spot and appears at her side.
  Karma quickly turns to kick Dam but Dam vanishes from that spot again and appears at her back again. Karma kept making several attempts to hit Dam with her punches, kicks and flame blasts but Dam kept on vanishing and switching positions. During this moment, Karma's eyes swiftly rolls back.
   "Got you!" Karma said as she twirls her body to land a roundhouse with her flame engulfed leg.
   However, Dam squats to dodge the attack and quickly hurls his blackened fists towards Karma which ended creating a powerful black shockwave that froze up the entire field.
   "Did he just use what i'm thinking?" Izaiya asked himself, "Dam's one-shot hit: The black out.  A swift blow that sends a powerful cold-wave pressure capable of shaking the vitals of his target, before moving to the brain. Dam could use this technique to either knock out his opponent or kill them and since he activated that form, it has got to be more powerful than his base.
    Dreygar or not, there is no way Karma ca-"
     Izaiya halts and stares in shock with the audience as Karma was standing back to back with Dam while Dam's stretched out forearm was bent and his wrist was twisted.
