Within the shard court, chief Ezgord who was escorted by two male Ripars at his side and Zotek (who was walking behind) walked into a room; upon arriving, Ezgord stepped forward a little and turned to the Ripars that escorted him. Ezgord's irises glowed which made the Ripars irises glow too and they both bowed their heads.
"Yes, my chief." The Ripars said.
The two Ripars left, leaving Zotek and Ezgord alone. Ezgord turned his back on Zotek and silence stayed in the room for some time until Zotek spoke.
"We were supposed to be setting the d'muresh stones on the exact areas the hivelings and traitors set them on. Why did you request for me to come when we have so little time?"
"You never seem to surprise me. Each time you come up with something despicable and somehow i end up carrying the brunt of your actions." Ezgord said, "I want to know... What they said you did... Is it true? Did you control that Graundar to act against his will?"
"I did." Zotek answered.
Hearing the answer of Zotek, chief Ezgord scoffed and raised his head high.
"Once he learns what you did, he will resent you, but he is not the only one.
Ripars, Graundars, Tenplars, Kenars, including the minors. Parents who have lost their young ones will abhor you with every fiber of their being; they will seek revenge. Minors will curse you for their friends and families.
You have made yourself an enemy of Agaroth and somehow this will fall on my head. The older brother of the man that brought this calamity. The brother of a soul eating devil.
As chief, it is expected of me to join in punishing you and the most expected one is execution, but... I don't want to kill my own brother. If i banish you, they will say i am being partial. They will say i am putting blood above duty and denying justice to the dead.
I do not care what the weak thinks, but still, image matters.
Because of you, countless are dead. Because of you, Agaroth is disarrayed and because of you, Sting is missing.
How long will i continue to bear the weight of your actions? Why must i suffer because of your selfishness?
First father, then my wife, now this."
"I am truly sorry for everything you have endured." Zotek said.
"Sorry... If sorry was enough to solve all problems, then there won't be a single problem in this world. Too bad it isn't." Chief Ezgord said, "I am supposed to have confidence in Sting yet a part of me fears for him. A part of me feels he won't survive."
"He will survive. He is your son." Zotek said.
"My son. Heh." Chief Ezgord said with a pain smirk, "The veil between us keeps growing. I couldn't reach him and with his mother's death, the distance grew faster than i could imagine. My son... If only he truly was."
"Brother..." Zotek said.
"We both know whose son he truly is... Maybe that is why i couldn't reach him since his birth." Chief Ezgord said.
"I relinquished my claim and rights as a father to you." Zotek said, "I am satisfied with being his uncle and grateful to you for taking him as your son."
"In the end he is not." Chief Ezgord said, "My wife... Ekame... Though she was betrothed to me, she loved you and that night before our marriage, you..."
Chief Ezgord scoffed and placed his palm on his face.
"Yes, my own brother."
"Up till now, i still cannot grasp what happened and how it happened. I am truly sorry." Zotek said.
"Her kan ability was like that of a female insect giving what they call pheromones to the male; once the male has fallen, the male becomes attracted and controllable." Chief Ezgord said, "As a Ripar, her soul could enslave the mind and soul of her victims, making them attracted to her and obey her will, but... It has no effect on stronger souls or souls are deeply in love.
You had no one you loved but your soul was by no means weaker than hers. So what happened?"
