Chapter 18 - Danger lurks

"I never fully realised how truly beautiful our magic is" You nodded towards the TV

"It's a marvelous thing indeed" Loki agreed

The elevator dinged behind you and you sensed Tony, Nat and Steve come out of it into the lounge

"Morning guys!" You greeted them over your shoulder. You were about to ask them how they were but you were bombarded by thoughts and feelings of worry and nerves. Instead you sighed. "What bad news do you have for me now?" You asked without looking at them

"How do you know there's bad news?" Steve asked, curiosity filled his voice

"Oh I know this one!" Tony perked up. "Its mind magic," and you just knew he wiggled his fingers like you had to him a week ago

You turned to look at them and saw the end of Steves eye roll. "Yes, there's bad news unfortunately"

"Alright, hit me with it" You sighed again, wondering what could be so bad that they all looked down in the dumps. You noticed Loki actually paying attention to them too, which didn't help the unease of the situation

"Well, as you've seen you've been plastered all over the news last night and this morning" Steve nodded towards the TV

When no one continued you gave them a look that said "yeh, and?" So Tony piped up. "SHIELD has intercepted chatter from a few not so friendly groups that have been talking about your powers" You still weren't following why they all looked so unravelled. "And there's been chatter of wanting to kidnap you to use you for your powers"

"Thats it? That's why you've all got your knickers in a twist?" You had to suppress a laugh at how ridiculous it all sounded

"This is serious Y/N. We aren't talking about street gangs. These are people high in the criminal world. Powerful groups who do terrible things" Nat told you sternly trying to get the severity of the situation through to you.

"What are you doing about it?" Loki asked out of nowhere. The three in front of us gave a look of surprise at Loki addressing them head on. Something he didn't do very often, if at all.

"Nothing needs to be done. We live in the Avengers Tower. This place is more protected than Fort Knox for crying out loud" You exclaimed, still not sure why everyone was so worried. Then it hit you, it's because you're the baby of the team. Of course they would be overly protective of you. It was quite sweet of them really.

"That being said the security is being upped here and you won't be able to leave the tower alone" Tony scrutinised

"That's fine by me" You shrugged. It's not like you went out anywhere very often, especially on your own

"And there's talk about benching you for missions," Steve added, sounding cautious.

"You what?!" You wouldn't believe what you were hearing. They wanted to bench you over something like this?! "Hang on a minute, this is literally in the job description. I can't be benched because there's a threat!"

"Look, maybe it's for the best- '' Nat started to say but I cut her off when I jumped to my feet and stormed over to them.

"Please, Tony. Don't bench me! I've only been on one mission with you guys and yeh, I overdid it, but I know better now!" You begged him giving him the best puppy dog eyes you could

You could see the internal argument he was having with himself all over his face. "Fine, but you'll be back up. No running off on the front lines until we know more" he eventually relented which made you give him a hug

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" You said and planted a big kiss on his cheek which he grinned at

"By the way, have you thought about a superhero name for yourself? The news has had no idea what to call you" Tony asked after getting disapproving looks from Nat and Steve before they both wondered off to the kitchen mumbling about how soft Tony is with you

"I have actually. How does 'The Sorceress' sound?" You asked, ecstatic that you were getting your own hero name

"Sounds good to me, Princess," he grinned. "I'll alert the press, '' he said jokingly although you wouldn't put it past him to actually do that. "Now go do some voodoo magic lessons with Reindeer Games''

And with that you'd now be known as The Sorceress

A week went by without any incident relating to your kidnapping and everything seemed to be going smoothly. Your lessons with Loki had gotten more interesting now that you were learning to conjure items from one place to another which were giving you a bit of trouble but Loki was confident that you'd be able to conjure things from other rooms soon enough. You were almost exclusively talking to Loki through your minds now too to help you build up your magic pool and stamina which was funny when you were having conversations about the others when they were sat right next to you. There was something intimate about talking to each other through your minds too, or at least that's what you thought.

Tony had even let Loki have extra time without the magic dampening cuff on now he was a bit more sure Loki wasn't going to go running off somewhere. He seemed to start regretting it when you and Loki were playing the team up by moving items just out of reach when they were going to pick them up, but it took you into a fit of giggles and Tony seemed to soften up a bit at that.

"Team, it's time to suit up!" Tony announced one evening once he retrieved his phone from your playful magic

You used your magic to instantly change into your suit which got you some envious looks from the team that you could do it so quickly. "See you up there!" You smirked to them and dashed off to the elevator

You reached the Quinjet before everyone else and retrieved the comms ready to hand out to the team as they all piled in

"Welcome to The Sorceress' airlines and thank you for flying with us today!" You greeted them all and got numerous eye rolls at your antics as you all got strapped into your seats
