Chapter 38 - Uneasy feelings

Author note: Im going to be bending the timeline of how Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron happened. Age of Ultron starts off at the end of the events of The Dark World they're in the time of Age of Ultron...if that makes sense :)

Things were pretty normal for a few days until Thor suddenly told us all that he was urgently needed on Asgard but Loki could stay on Midgard.

Nothing seemed amiss at first but then he was gone for a week which then turned into two weeks. By the second week you and Loki had a bad feeling about Thors absence. You didn't know why but you did.

So when the bifrost lit up, announcing Thors return, both you and Loki teleported up to the roof to ask him where he had been.

We both stopped dead in our tracks when we saw the look on Thors face. His eyes were puffy like he had been crying

"Thor? What's wrong?" You asked him as you stepped a little closer to him

When he didn't answer, Loki tried. "Brother, what happened back home?"

"Mother...is dead" He managed to eventually get out in a croak

Your hands flew to cover your mouth and you felt like you had been punched in the stomach and you couldn't imagine what Loki was feeling.

You turned to Loki and his face as a contorted mix of heartbreak and anger. You moved closer to Loki but didn't touch him, a little scared of the anger you saw building in him

"How?" Was all he said

"Dark elves. She was protecting Jane" Thor nearly sobbed

"Your puny Midgardian?" Loki clarified through gritted teeth.

"Yes. But I need you now, brother. This thing called The Aether is in Jane and it's killing her. The dark elves will not stop until they have it. It is very dangerous and we must make sure they don't get it so will you come with me?" Thor said, obviously still hurting so much inside

"Well let's go then" You said

"No, I'm not losing another loved one today. Please, please, stay here" He turned to you and was all but begging on his knees

You didn't want to stay behind but you understood why he was asking. "Okay, but you be careful, okay. You have to come back to me" and you kissed him deeply before waving the brothers off back through the bifrost.

"Miss Y/N, the team is arriving back from Sokovia and requests you be in the infirmary. Mr Barton has been dangerously injured and needs your help" JARVIS informed you. You had completely forgotten they even went on a mission without you. They had gone to retrieve the sceptre Loki used in the attack on New York

You teleported down to the infirmary where Dr Cho was also waiting for the team's return. Looks like she got called in too.

"Good evening Y/N. Mr Stark has told me to let you know that you are to partially heal Mr Barton and my portable nano-molecular cradle will heal the rest" she informed you

"Okay. You know you can call us by our first names by now Dr Cho" You smiled to her but before she could respond, Clint was rushed in by Nat and Steve. "Looks like I'm up!"

You followed them into the room they took Clint into and started healing him right away. It didn't take long to heal him to the point where he wasn't and longer in danger of crossing the borders to Valhalla. You'd been brushing up on your Asgardian lore

"Where's Tony and Bruce?" You asked Nat when Dr Cho asked you all to step back for a second while she set up her machine

"In the labs with the sceptre" Nat told you, more worried about Clint but you knew he was absolutely fine now

"Oh you got it? That's great! Well done" You congratulated her and went off to find the mad scientists

You walked in on Tony and Bruce looking at a hologram of how JARVIS was made up. You weren't totally clueless

"Hi guys. Hi JARVIS! Always lovely to see you with a form" You smiled

"Hello, Miss Y/N, thank you" JARVIS replied and you saw how the hologram pulsated when it spoke

"Hey, Princess. Want to see something cool about the gem in the sceptre?" Tony asked you

"Hell yeah!" You said and moved over to where he and Bruce were standing

He tapped his phone to the air and a blue hologram migger and more complex than JARVIS' popped up in front of him

"Woah! That looks like a brain! That's the gem?" You said and the two scientists looked at you in shock. "What, im not stupid, just not as smart as you"

"Yep, she's definitely your adoptive daughter" Bruce chuckled which made you smile

"JARVIS, i hate to say it, mate, but i think this gem just outed you" You said to the orange hologram

"I know" JARVIS replied sounding sad

"Don't worry, if Tony is a dick and throws you aside, I'll look after you" you told the AI while smirking at Tong

"Thank you Miss Y/N" JARVIS replied with gratitude as Tony gave you a shocked look. You knew he would never throw JARVIS aside really.

"Anyway!" Tony said and turned back to Bruce. "This could be the answer to Ultron!"

"Ohhh ohh i dont like where this is going" Bruce looked a little worried

"If you could harness this power and apply it to the Iron Legion, think of the possibilities!" Tony said getting excited about it

"That's a mad-sized if though" Bruce said, taking his glasses off.

"Well, I have no idea what 'Ultron' is but you're mad scientists. Mad-sized ifs are the only it's you work with" You winked to the pair and Tony looked like he could never be prouder of you.

"See! She gets it!" Tony beamed

"Well, I'll let you two figure things out. I'll see you later" You smiled to the two of them before wandering off to get something to eat.
