31: The Truth?

You woke up the next morning in a panic. You were unsure if you'd been dumb enough to go home with Griffin. You groaned trying to open your eyes fully into focus only to be blinded again by flashes of last night. You memory of being in your car with Chase pushed through but only managed confused you more. 

You sat up, instantly relieved to find yourself in your own bed but still confused on the details. You knew that you'd have to go to Griffin or Chase for answers about last night but at the moment a more pressing issue weighed on your mind. The thing that'd drove you out late last night in the first place.

The phone only rang twice before his voice filled the air: "Look. I know I messed up. I-"

You: "I just don't understand what went wrong? I- I thought you liked me."

Jaden: "Oh God. I really did. I mean, I do! It's complicated."

Hearing him admit to you thay he liked you and you hadnt imagined the whole thing finally lifted the weight off your chest enough to exhale. If he hadn't bailed because he didn't like you then what? Was it Chase? Did he see him there and assume something was going on with you? You weren't really dating or anything but even the casual early stages of talking can be turned upside down if there are complications. It's why you'd kept feeling things put between Noah, Jaden, and Josh between yourself.

You: "Then uncomplicate it for me. Does it have something to do with Chase? We are just friends if that's what you're worried about."

Jaden: "Chase and I know each other and the history there is a little messy, I guess."

You: "I know he's mentioned him as his girlfriend have been very off and on… did you two have a thing?"

Jaden: "I- I don't-"

Of course! Chase had mentioned multiple times his history with Charli was messy with lots of back and forth. She also had a history of moving on too quick after a fight if you seeing her with Bryce was any indicator. The pieces were starting to fall together.

You: "I know she moved on this latest time about 5 seconds after they fought so he can't possibly hold it against you if she hooked up with you at some point too."

Jaden: "Uh- yeah. I mean like I said it's just complicated and seeing Chase yesterday was not something I ever expected."

You: "Maybe we can go out tonight and talk and get to know each other better. No interruptions this time."

It felt better to know that the issue had been with Chase and his relationship drama and not with anything you had done. Though one thing still didn't make sense... if Chase was the one who'd been cheated on then why did Jaden run out the door as if he was heartbroken?

We clearly like him… Will meeting up with Jaden spark things or will we be friendzoned.
