When you got home from work you headed straight to bed. You hadn’t been ready to admit to your mom that you quit your job so you figured the safest bet was hide. Besides all the emotions of the outburst at work had completely emotionally drained you.
But because you went to sleep so early, you woke up super early too. You found your mom making breakfast before your dad woke up: "Good morning, sweetie. Merry Christmas. Breakfast will be a while, I didn't expect you up this early."
You took a deep breath: “Mom. I need to tell you something and you’re going to be mad but-”
Without missing a beat: “I already know you quit your job. Tayler told his dad and his dad called your dad.”
Of course he did. You sighed: “I’m sorry. I know you wanted me to work there and I tried… I really did-”
Mom: “I just don’t understand. I tried to let go of you giving Tayler another chance but now suddenly you can’t even be civil enough to work with him?”
You didn’t plan to tell your mom the truth, and definitely not on Christmas but it just spilled out: “He cheated on me.”
Mom stopped mixing the muffin batter and turned around in shock. She was dripping batter all over the floor as she clarified: “What do you mean he cheated on you? Like he flirted with another girl or he-”
You interrupted to tell her: “No he slept with another girl… multiple other girls."
Mom: "That little rat!"
You continued: "One of which works with him at the restaurant and has spent the last 3 weeks rubbing in my face the fact that he cheated on me with her for MONTHS and I never knew.”
Mom: “So he was sleeping around and you just had no clue?"
You: "Not exactly. I knew he'd cheated before but I always forgave him. Partly because I was dumb and naive and partly because I didn't want to disappoint you and Dad."
Mom: "Honey, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. His parents just have a particular idea of who he is and it just never occurred to me that maybe that wasn’t real.”
You sat down and buried your face in your arms on the table. The weight of getting that off your chest, combined with wishing Chase would just talk to you, and missing Josh as much as you did all just was too much.

Josh hadn’t called you in days and hadn’t texted you since yesterday when he only messaged to say he couldn’t talk. You were trying really hard to not take it personally because he’d warned you before he left that he would be busy. It didn’t make you miss him any less and for the first time in a while you stopped to think about what it would feel like to have him just disappear from your life all together. Absolute heartbreak.
