150: Chase Coming Though

*EMMA'S POV*

As she walked up to the front door that up until a few weeks ago was hers, she paused just before knocking. The sound of arguing could be heard all the way in the hallway so she took a deep breath and tapped her knuckles against the front door. The door swung open and her best friend looked like she was on the verge of tears:
"You don't have to knock, Em. This is your house."

Josh looked as if he  was about to implode as Emma asked:
"Is everything okay?"

Josh: "Just peachy."

He grabbed his hoodie off the edge of the couch and snapped:
"I'm going to play basketball."

After he'd slammed the door behind him, Emma turned back to her best friend:
"Again, is everything okay?"

She sighed as she flopped back down on the couch in frustration:
"I don't want to talk about it. What are you up to?"

Emma: "Okay? Well, I thought you should know I paid Olivia's apartment a visit... Before you get too excited, she wasn't there. In fact, it appears she and Eva both moved out suddenly."

Her already frazzled best friend scoffed, sarcastically:
"Well, that's not suspicious at all?"

Emma: "Yeah, I don't know what it means exactly. Speaking of not knowing what something means... Bryce kinda asked me if I'd marry him..."

*END EMMA'S POV*

You nearly choked on the sip of water you'd just taken as Emma continued:
"Don't freak out. I'm pretty sure it was hypothetical... I think."

You: "Well that's good, right? I mean obviously, it's too soon but-"

Emma: "I think I'd say yes."

Your shock was interrupted by Chase walking in and Emma changing the subject:
"Hey. I'm glad you're home. I have to get to my shift at the restaurant and Josh- Well Josh left. I don't really want to leave her alone."

Chase dropped his keys on the counter and asked:
"Where's Nessa?"

You: "I dunno. She hasn't been here all day."

Emma hugged you and hurried out the door as Chase sat down on the couch next to you with the remote in hand:
"Wanna watch something?"

You were still reeling from your fight with Josh so you just shrugged as he started scrolling through the options:
"Soooo, is there something I'm missing about why or how Josh left?"

You: "I don't want to talk about it."

Chase: "Okay, next question. How sure are we that Nessa isn't involved in this? She is never here and when she is, she's being so secretive."

You: "If she wanted to hurt me she could just sneak into my room while I'm asleep. I think she's keeping a secret but not that."

Halfway through the movie, you had checked the time no less than a dozen times. Chase looked up at you and asked:
"I don't know what happened with Josh but he'll call soon, I'm sure."

You: "He's really mad at me which honestly pisses me off because I'm the one that should be mad."

Chase sat up to engage in a conversation as you explained:
"He went behind my back and had Cooper run forensics on the letters."

Chase: "Well as someone who had to learn that lesson the hard way, just call him and make up with him. He probably is just scared of losing you."

Chase excused himself so you could call but Josh immediately declined it. He then texted you instead.
