The next few days were icy in your house. Nessa seemed distant and secretive. You felt like there was more to her dropping Josh off but he barely remembered that night. Chase hadn't spoken to you really since that night either. It was as if interrupting whatever he was about to say had closed him off completely. Josh had seemingly dropped every frustration he'd been holding against you before and had spent his 3 days off with you.

Today, you laid in his arms as he played video games on the TV in your room. You looked up at him:
"I wish you didn't have to go."

Josh bent down to kiss the top of your head without taking his eyes off of his game:
"I have a few hours until work, baby. I'm not leaving yet."

You: "It's just so lonely here."

Josh: "Babe, you have 2 roommates. How lonely can it be?"

You: "I wish I could just go to your house and wait for you to get off work. Just hide from reality."

Josh sat down his controller and pulled you closer:
"But who would keep you safe while I'm at work?"

You: "It's not like I'm any less alone here."

Josh looked down at you, confused as he squeezed you tighter. He must not have been listening 100% during his game so you repeated:
"I'm gonna be alone here anyway. I don't think Nessa or Chase have been home in days."

Suddenly Josh realized that they'd spent so much time in her room the last few days that he hadn't even noticed her roommates had been gone.

Josh: "Were they always gone this much and I'm just out of the loop?"

You: "Well Nessa thinks she's hiding the fact that she's clearly dating someone new and Chase-"

It was clear hearing Nessa was seeing someone had elicited some kind of reaction from Josh but he was doing his best at hiding it.

Josh: "Where has Chase been? Jaden still lives with his parents so not like they can just stay there all the time?"

You technically weren't lying, but definitely left out that Chase had almost made a move on you the night you got the most recent letter:
"I don't know."

Josh scooted down so that he could hold you tighter and brushed your hair out of your face:
"Do you want me to call out of work?"

You: "No! You already used all of your time off and I don't want you to lose your job. You wouldn't be able to pay rent if you did that."

Josh smiled, playfully:
"Oh darn. I guess I'd have to move into this room. That'd be awful."

You kissed him with a smile but even as you responded, you weren't sure you could handle him and Nessa cohabitating:
"Someday. When I don't live with your ex-girlfriend that is."

Josh scrunched his forehead:
"No know that there is absolutely nothing going on with her, right?"

You decided to change the subject:
"Did you ever hear anything back from Cooper about the letters?"
