Your Mom wasted no time in asking:
"So is he your boyfriend? Or…"You leaned back in an unintentional huff. You weren't really sure you wanted to confide in your mom but before you could really weigh your choices, your emotions were already spilling out:
“I don’t even know. I wish he was but he wants to take things slow.”Mom smiled:
“He seems to like you.”Your interest was piqued as you rested your chin on the arm that was propped up by the counter and allowed the daydreams to ramp up:
“Why do you think that?”Your mom plopped a few extra fluffy marshmallows in your mug before sitting next to you and answering:
“Most boys would have run and hidden when they heard a parent at the door but he seemed happy to meet your family.”You couldn’t help but laugh as you took a sip:
“Well that’s probably because Dad wasn’t with you.”Mom joined in your laughter:
“Now that would have been a nightmare.”It felt good to be sharing this laugh with your mom. You used to get along so well when you were in high school. After Tayler and you broke up for the last time, you started to shut out the world out. Not just her. You went off to college before you'd fully healed from what went down and that, to be honest, was probably the reason behind all the drama that got you kicked out of college.
Even though you hadn't done what you'd been accused of, you definitely didn't help the situation. You'd had very little hope of a fresh start coming home. You'd dreamed of getting a job, saving all of your money, then taking off and starting new somewhere. It wasn't until you'd met Chase that you thought... maybe just MAYBE being home could be okay.
Chase... you really did feel awful that you and he weren't in a good place at all right now. He must be going through it to have let what you walked in on happen and he was going to have to make it right but you knew you could have done better at letting him. You were so focused on Josh...
You'd had an amazing night with Josh. It scared you how into him you were. You shook the train of thought out of your head when you heard your mom's cup clink in the kitchen sink.
You: “So you’re gonna be cool if I keep seeing him? Even though he’s not Tayler?”
Mom: “I still think Tayler is a sweet boy but I just want you to be happy.”
You: “I hope we will end up happy. God, Mom. I really really like him.”
Mom: “Then listen to my advice… text him a cute selfie of you curled up in bed and telling him how much fun you had. Works every time.”
You were going to scoff but realized it was actually kind of genius. You hugged your mom and headed upstairs to your room. Before you turned off the light you took her advice and texted Josh.
To your surprise, he responded right away with a message that helped lull you off into peaceful dreams.
Tomorrow’s work day is a nightmare with mean girls. Does Tayler take your side or scheme against you?
