132: A Surprising Side

The next day you woke up, unable to stretch but feeling much better after finally getting some sleep. You tried to roll over but Emma grumbled next to you. You rolled the other direction only to find Jaden cuddled up on your pillow. You must have all 3 fallen asleep during the movie. When you tried to slither off the end of the bed, Emma and Jaden both finally woke up. You turned and smiled:
"Thanks, guys for everything last night. I really needed that."

Emma was able to pull herself up first:
"That's what best friends are for, babe."

Jaden finally got up as all 3 of you piled out of your bedroom, only to come face to face with Nessa sitting on the couch. Jaden was last to notice her as he groaned:
"I love you guys and all but next time we do that, we need to go back to our own beds after we finish."

Nessa only heard the tail end of Jaden's sleepy rant and quipped:
"A threesome? Hot."

Emma: "Don't be ridiculous. We all have boyfriends. We just fell asleep watching a movie. Besides, where have you even been?"

Nessa rolled her eyes:
"Just with- Uh- friends."

Emma: "Friends? I didn't know you had those."

Nessa bit back:
"Geez, you're my roommate not my mom. Hop off."

It really seemed like she was hiding something or at least wanted you to think she was. Nessa stood up, gathered her stuff, and headed towards her room, sipping her cup of tea. She stopped short of her room and turned to address you:
"I don't know if you get mail here yet, but this came for me so you probably have one too"

She reached onto her dresser and then turned to hand you a piece of paper. You took it and before you finished reading the first line, you felt your heart drop into your stomach. It was a notice that the trial would be starting in a few days. You couldn't quite piece together the reality of what that meant and were a little beyond confused, honestly. The time the prosecutor had given you had long passed, so why now?

Emma took one look at the paper and the moment Nessa closed the bathroom door, asked:
"Do you want me to call and tell Josh, Hun?"

You: "No! I am not going to reach out to him again first. Besides, Nessa probably already told him and he still didn't call so I doubt he cares, and I doubt he's still my boyfriend."

Nessa had excused herself to jump in the shower after dropping her bombshell about the trial. Emma and Jaden tried to comfort you but were interrupted by a knock at the door. Jaden, sheepishly tried to explain:
"I don't know if this is a bad time but Chase is here to pick me up?"

Emma looked at him as if he had 2 heads atop his neck:
"Here? Now?"

Jaden motioned towards the door, unsure what to do as he explained:
"I really thought he'd just text me from the car so I could come down. What do I-"

He was interrupted by a second series of knocks and Chase's voice calling out through the door:
"Hello? Anyone going to let me in."

You sighed and moved past them to open the door. Chase seemed shocked to see you:
"You're here."
