The last week had been hard. Josh was able to facetime you a few times but you were definitely still missing him. The frame nuzzled perfectly on your vanity next to your mirror so you could see it while you got ready for the party tonight. You had to admit to getting lost staring at his sweet face multiple times a day. You really wiahed he was going to be at this party tonight. He wouldn’t be home for 3 more days so you were determined to distract yourself.
Tonight’s New Years Eve party was the perfect distraction. You’d invited several friends and Noah. Who knew, maybe this would be his chance to prove that he could be your friend too. You weren't even sure you wanted that but you were way too much of a pushover, especially when it came to guys. Your mom said you'd always been sensitive to other people's feelings but Emma thought it had more to do with losing your bond with your dad. The truth was definitely hiding somewhere between those two theories.
The party was getting started and mostly it was your parent's friends who'd made it. Jaden and Noah had both casually slipped in but so far, neither had approached you. Emma walked in and called across the busy room: “The party has arrived!!”

The attire was formal every year for this party and Emma stunned in a black satin jumpsuit. Iy was asymetrical straps with one side covered on crystals. She was already a pretty girl, but with her hair in the soft updo and her makeup snatched... absolute perfection. You ran over and hugged her then noticed her plus one: “Ooooh you brought a date. Hi Bryce.”
Emma excused herself to go thank your mom for inviting her. You loved that in just a few short weeks, Emma had become part of the family. Your mom absolutely adored her.
Bryce: “It’s cool I came right? I know I wasn’t really the one invited.”

You: “Of course! I’m glad you and Emma are vibing so well. Any thoughts on maybe making it an official thing?”
Bryce smiled: “I mean… you could say that’s a definite possibility.”
Bryce then noticed Noah and Jaden near the drink table and motioned their direction: “Speaking of dating… did you really invite 2 of your boyfriends to the same party? Wow.”
You had forgotten for a moment that Bryce new about every single one of the 9 guys you started off with a month ago. He’d helped you go through their profiles so of course he’d recognize them all.
You playfully pushed Bryce: “Ewe, no. That would be so awkward. I’m not dating any of them but I have made lots of new friends. You know the only one I want to date is Josh and he didn’t even come tonight.”
Bryce joked back with you: “Probably a good thing he didn't come since half the guys here you have attempted to date.”
