139: Noah's Testimony

You turned to watch the door as Lauren and Madi continued talking but Nessa turned to face you. She reassured you:
"He'll be back. I know he will."

You didn't know why you felt so compelled to return the effort at comforting, but it just felt right:
"Nessa... Josh does believe you. I know he didn't before but ever since he saw you at the station that day. He does really believe you."

You watched the relief wash over Nessa as she motioned towards the door. You watched Josh walk back in and sit down with Bryce, Jaden, and Emma following behind. Emma mouthed to you: everything is going to be okay.

Before you could react, the judge walked back in and declared the courtroom back in session. Everyone rushed to take their seats as the prosecutor motioned for you ladies to turn and face the front and silence the conversation. The defense attorney stood and addressed the court:
"This morning we heard testimony from four girls with a lot to gain from destroying my client. Now it's his turn to speak. Noah, would you come up to the stand?"

Noah stood up and made his way to the front of the courtroom. As he sat and took his oath, to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, you couldn't help but wonder if he was even capable. The defense attorney asked:
"Noah, can you tell me in your own words what happened with Miss Kettering?"

Noah: "She's just a girl I met at the gym. We flirted a lot and one day after working out, she came onto me."

Defense: "And why do you think she'd be here testifying against you today?"

Noah laughed:
"Well, I wasn't really interested in it being anything more really. So, we fooled around a bit in the parking lot then that's it. I never talked to her again until today."

Defense: "And Miss Monroe?"

Noah: "Nothing she said was true except that I did invite her to have ice cream. She was coming onto me so I thought I'd do her a favor and spend a little time and money on her but she was far too young and inexperienced for me."

Defense: "So you never filmed any encounters with her?"

Noah: "If I did don't you think, they'd have found the evidence by now?"

You looked over at Lauren who appeared far more dumbfounded than Madi. Madi wore the expression of murderous rage. If she thought no one would stop her, you questioned how likely it was that she would have climbed across the table being the only obstacle between her hands and Noah's throat. 

You couldn't even stand to look at him as he called out every word by Nessa as a lie. The defense attorney asked why she would have possibly accused him of the crimes he was being charged with and he at first only responded with a smirk. Next, he claimed that they'd been having an affair for weeks and that she only cried the R-word after getting caught by her boyfriend.

Nessa nearly came out of her seat, but you held her down and squeezed her hand in yours.

Lastly, Noah was asked about the day of your attack:
"I mean. We hooked up basically multiple times before that day-"

You had shown so much restraint when you were reassuring the other girls as Noah sat on the stand and lied but when it came to the vile lies coming out of his mouth about yourself, you just couldn't seem to control your outburst:
"I never slept with you, not once you lying scumbag!"

The judge didn't wait for the defense to object and immediately slammed his gavel against the wood multiple times as he asserted:
"I'll have order in this court!"

He looked right at the prosecutor as he warned:
"If you can't control your client, then I am going to dismiss all charges and move on to my next case instead of letting this one turn into a mockery."

Nessa, Lauren, and Madi all understood exactly how you felt as they wrapped their arms around you in hopes of calming you down. The defense attorney wore a smile larger than the Cheshire cat as he asked Noah to continue:
"I was a little surprised when she had me kicked out of her parents' party but when I saw she was dating Nessa's ex-boyfriend, it all made sense."

A gasp could be heard spreading throughout the courtroom as the judge beat his gavel repeatedly, calling:
"Order in my courtroom! This is the last warning!"

Noah smiled as the defense attorney tried to bring the questioning to a close:
"And can you detail to me what happened the day in question?"

Noah: "She called me over to hook up again but we were interrupted by her other boyfriend. Apparently, she really gets around."

You jabbed the attorney in the rib with your elbow as he jumped up and shouted:
"Objection!"

The judge immediately ruled to sustain because he had already made it clear, he wouldn't allow any more of a mockery to be made of the proceedings. The prosecutor sat back down in frustration at how this was all playing out.

Noah continued:
"He broke some stuff while they fought about it so I took the chance to dip out the back."

You turned to the prosecutor and pushed:
"You're going to cross-examine him, right!?!"

He explained:
"I can't. He didn't introduce any new evidence. All he did was refute things we've already given testimony about."
