A hush spread across the gallery as Charly went on to explain:
"We were college roommates and she hooked up with my boyfriend."

Defense: "Objection! A woman's past history has no bearing on her status as a victim in this proceeding."

Judge: "Past encounters? No. If there was a past false accusation, I'll allow it."

Prosecutor: "Allow me to clarify. How did her indiscretion lead to a false accusation."

Charly: "Well she told me that he'd come onto her and she'd rejected him. Then a week later I found them in bed together and she claimed she said no, but people at the party swore she'd asked him to leave with her."

The defense attorney finally arose and approached the witness:
"Were there charges ever filed by my client?"

Charly: "Well no. We all knew she was lying so she just took off and dropped out."

Defense: "Without charges then there was no legal false accusations made outside of hearsay."

Judge: "I'd have to agree."

Prosecutor: "I have another witness-"

The judge interrupted:
"I feel like I have plenty of information to make a ruling."

Prosecutor: "But your honor?!"

The gavel hit the granite as the judge's voice boomed through the courtroom:
"I've heard enough."

The judge dismissed everyone while he retreated to his chambers to come to a decision. Everyone filed out into the hall as you, Lauren, Madi, and Nessa all hugged each other trying to make sense of everything. Lauren and Madi excused themselves as Nessa stayed back and asked:
"Are you okay? That was rough."

You still had tears frozen in shock at the corner of your eyes:
"I- I don't know what to say."

Emma came up and wrapped you in a hug as Nessa asked as delicately as she could:
"Is what that girl said- Is it true?"

You looked up to see Josh and all of your friends hovering over you as you explained:
"I- He tried and I rejected him. That's true."

Emma: "You don't have to do this."

You continued anyway because the look in Josh's eyes was more than you could stand:
"A few days later we were at a party and he was upset she'd broken up with him and we went upstairs to talk about it and that's the last thing I remember."

Chase: "So he did assault you?"

You: "I don't know. I remember nothing but when Charly showed up things were still foggy and I was so confused. I tried to talk to her but she just kept putting words in my mouth."

You sat down on a nearby bench as you continued:
"I still don't think anything happened but the two of them were crazy. Like insane and were just using me in a battle between the two of them. I couldn't handle the mind games so I took off."

Charly came over and instantly everyone saw what you'd meant about putting words in your mouth:
"So you're really not going to admit what you did to me?"

You shouted back:
"What I did to you? Are you kidding? I did nothing wrong, your psycho boyfriend-"

Charly: "So you're still claiming he forced you?"

You: "No! I-"

Charly: "So you're saying you lied and it was consensual?"

Emma could see you on the verge of a breakdown again and ran her off:
"You have two seconds to get out of here before I remove you."

You turned towards Josh and tried to explain:
"I know I should have to you about all of this but honestly I just wanted to forget it ever happened."

Josh: "I don't understand. So did you sleep with him?"

You: "I don't know, okay? I just don't know."

Chase put his arm around you and suggested:
"Why don't we all just go back to the apartment to wait for the judge to call. It could be hours or days. There's no point hanging out here."

You grabbed Josh's hand:
"Please come home with me. I don't want you to leave me again. Please."

Josh letting go, sighed:
"Just go back to the apartment and I- I'll meet you there."

You spent the entire car ride terrified he wouldn't show up and was gone... again.

Nessa: "I bet he'll be there."

Emma: "He better!"
