(Y/N)
The first thing that hit me was the heat. The overwhelming, unbearable heat. Though, that was to be expected when we were traveling to a literal hell.
The second was Tommy, roughly colliding with my body as he jumped through the portal before I could move. I shouted as he fell onto the netherack. Grateful beyond words that we weren't on a platform above lava. It would be a pretty stupid death and Tommy probably wouldn't have been able to handle it. Rationally, at least.
"Ow!" I shouted when my body hit the weird, hard yet fleshy ground. I really don't know what netherack is made of and I really don't want to know. "Tommy, I told you to give me three seconds at least! You gave me less than one."
"Sorry, sorry," he muttered, rolling off of me. "I just really didn't like the idea if leaving you in here alone. Not even for a second. At least... after last time..." He trailed off but he didn't have to say any more. I knew what he meant.
"Yeah, okay, I get it. But please," I shot him a smile to lighten the mood. "Don't crush me next time." I hummed, deciding that the best way to distract Tommy from... last time... is to tease him. It'll either fluster him or piss him off, both doing an excellent job of getting his mind off my first recorded death. "You're not as light as you look y'know."
He looked over at me, and I noticed his wins flap self-consciously. As if flapping them did something to blow away my words. "Is that a back handed compliment or a really nice insult?"
My smirk grew, "I don't know. Take it however you like, I guess."
He groaned and I laughed, "Why are you laughing? You're so rude!" There was no bite in his tone, no sign of actual hurt. Just playful teasing.
"Oh, don't be such a baby. You said something similar to me when we were still getting to know each other." I placed a finger on my chin, pretending to think. "'You're lighter than you look' or something."
He stared at me for a long time, eye brows furrowed. "I've never said... Oh." He covered his face with his hands. "Oh okay. Now I remember." I giggled at his reaction.
"I finally got my revenge."
"Fucken' good for you!" He replied, throwing his hands up, wings fluttering. At least they were working. "I really don't get how you remember exactly what I said, though. That's insane, man."
I shrugged, "Maybe it's my specialty. You've got wings and a creepy guy that wants you dead. I have good memory and a connection with a wolf. Sounds pretty even."
Tommy rolled his eyes, "Yeah. Even. Also!" He crouched down beside Aster who had been silently watching us bicker. "I think I have quite the connection with Aster too. So, maybe I have more specialties than you. By one weird dude."
I laughed and he join in a beat later. Even Aster barked along. It probably wasn't a good idea to make so much voice in the middle of hell but who cares? It's good to let Tommy have some fun once in a while. Besides, I think I needed a good laugh too.
"So," I looked at Tommy as he came down from laughing. "Do you know where we're heading?"
He nodded, pointing towards the lake of lava that boiled a ways from us. Above it, the caverns of the Nether spread, along with a weird black blotch in the middle of the lake. Maybe lake wasn't the right word. Ocean. Yeah. That's more like it. It sat miles away, above the ocean of lava.
"What're you pointing at?"
"The main portal. It'll lead us go L'manburg." He glanced at me and rolled his eyes at my confused expression. "The weird black blotch."
I did a double take and looked back put across the sea. "We have to get to there?" I looked at him, "Are you crazy? I don't remember it being that far away when I took the boat."
"Oh, it's really far. You were probably just so excited to reunite with me, the journey felt short."
I huffed at the tease but honestly, it was the best excuse I had at the moment. "Fine. How do you suppose we get there?"
"There's a lot of bridges that lead to it. We just have to get to one of them."
"You say that like it's easy."
"It's not hard." He shrugged and it made me question just how many times he's been here.
"You won't get us lost?"
"I've been around here often enough. It'll be fine."
"Okay then. But if you get us lost I'm going to be... upset." I crossed my arms. "This is not somewhere I want to be forever." Originally, I was going to say that I didn't want to die here but... that's already happened so I didn't.
"Yeah, I know. Just, we have to be careful. Zombie pigmen won't attack us but normal piglins will. Unless we have gold." He looked at me hopefully.
"We don't have gold."
He sighed, standing up. "Then we avoid them." He patted his thigh and Aster jumped up onto his feet. I'm glad to see that they've bonded. "Follow me."
