"Hm? Doesn't class start soon?" You were confused by Levi's most recent order.
"It does. You'll be staying here." Levi rearranged papers in his desk drawer.
"Didn't we just talk about including me so I can learn?"
"We did. Do you remember what happened before that?"
"Huh?"
"You raised your voice and talked back again. Quite aggressively, too." Levi stood, fixing his tie.
"Oh, uh..."
"So you'll be staying in here. I don't need a feisty tiger glaring at me while I'm teaching."
"Wait, that's not fair."
"It's entirely fair. It's my job to reprimand poor behavior."
"What, so I'm put in time-out?"
"Exactly. Try properly staying in the office this time. I'll see you later." Levi left, once again leaving you alone.
Oh my God, he's impossible. You leaned against his desk, confined to your modern cell.
Two slow, boring hours passed. You couldn't remember how you passed the time as it all seemed to meld into one uneventful blur.
The sound of the door opening was a relief after the silent hell. Levi stepped in, his eyes falling upon the intern leaning against his desk. "I'm back."
"I see that." You peeled your head off of the side of the desk. "What now?"
"I've got a meeting. Let's go."
"Oh, I get to come with for this one?"
"Yes, as long as you stay quiet."
Levi took you to a board room, only occupied by a few other faculty members. You recognized them as department heads, assuming this must be a leadership meeting. Levi found a seat on one of the length-wise sides of the table, motioning you to sit next to him.
I know I wanted to be included, but now this feels like too much. I'm not a department head at all.
"I haven't properly met you yet, (y/n)." A tall, bald man with dark eyes and tanned skin sat across the table. "I'm Keith Shadis, the physical education department head."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Dr. Shadis." You straightened your posture.
"You've been a hot topic ever since you arrived. It's good to hear that you're excelling."
Who said I'm excelling? "Just doing my best. I'm happy to know I'm doing well."
More teachers filled in, picking random seats at the table. You felt comforted when Erwin Smith chose to sit on the other side of you, leaving you now sandwiched between your mentors.
"It's unusual to see you here. Even I didn't take you to meetings." Erwin spoke softly to you.
"Tell me about it. He's so hard to predict." You leaned away from your gossip victim.
"You're holding up well, despite that."
"Thanks. He certainly keeps me on my toes."
"He's like that to most. Once you get on his level, or above it, he gets a little less aggressive."
"I don't appreciate the banter," Levi said gruffly.
"Just passing on some advice to the learning intern. No foul play." Erwin shifted his eyes to his coworker.
