The following morning, you went to the university and ran through the motions of a typical school day. Levi had a reserved aura, keeping to himself in an effort to repress paranoia. He stayed diligent in his work, and you were able to help much more frequently than you could at the start of the year.
"Good afternoon." Levi stood at the front of the classroom of two dozen students, crossing his arms and leaning against the whiteboard behind him. "You were expected to finish the last two chapters of the assigned reading. We'll discuss the methods described and how they can be applied to rhetorical situations."
That was a tough read. I skimmed it before class, but even I got a little lost. Hopefully the kids understand it okay.
"You'll receive a handout detailing the different types of appeals and how they're to be utilized in our next project. There's-" He faced the desk you sat at, finding it bare of any papers. "Ah. (Y/n), go and see if they're still in my office. They should be on my desk."
"Oh, sure." You stood, crossing and exiting the room.
Approaching Levi's office, you saw a shorter, wiry student knocking on his door. "Um, Professor?" the student called to the office.
"Levi's in class right now." You appeared behind him.
"O-oh. When will he be back?"
"Not for at least another hour. Is it something urgent?" You opened the door and entered, treating the room as if it were your own.
"Uh, kinda. My name's Connie Springer. I'm in his academic success class. I hafta get a grade check waiver thingie signed." He stayed at the doorway.
"I see. When is it due?" You went to Levi's desk, spotting the stack of papers.
"Um, before practice today. At 3."
"Oh. So in less than an hour." You tapped the sheets together before picking them up. Your eyes happened to notice Levi's phone, left unattended near the edge of the desk. Geez, he's forgetting everything. First the handouts, now his phone.
"Yeah." He grinned guiltily.
"I'll see if Levi can fill it out during his class, if you have the paper." You picked up the phone, planning to return it to its owner.
"That would be great! I've got it right here." Connie waved a sheet of paper.
"Okay. Come with me. We can go talk to Levi."
You led Connie to Levi's classroom, where the professor was writing small memos on the board as his students tossed out ideas.
"Like Mina was saying, the usage of-" He stopped upon seeing you. "Well, I asked for papers, and I see you brought me a student."
"I know. I'm quite the magician." You passed in front of him and began dividing the stack of papers between the students in the first row, expecting them to take one and pass it back. Connie once again waited in the doorway, terrified of being an intrusion.
"Take a look at the appeals listed," Levi instructed to the class. "I want you to read over this handout and formulate an idea of which appeal would be best when examining the prompt we came up with." Having given the students a task, he was able to properly address Connie. "I have office hours for a reason, you know."
"I know! I'm sorry for the interruption, but I have an urgent matter." Connie quickly stated his case. "Also, I may have forgotten when your hours were. I lost the syllabus, you see..."
"You failed to be academically successful in an academic success class?"
"I guess it is a bit ironic," Connie laughed. Levi wasn't amused. "A-anyways, I need you to sign off on my grade check thingie. It's for sports."
