You drove home with Levi that day, both of you immediately heading home once all work had been completed at the university. At his apartment, Levi quickly stripped off his blazer as he entered his bedroom. "I have to shower," he declared. "You can start on din-- no, never mind."
"What? Why not?" You stood in the bedroom doorway. "I can cook somewhat, y'know."
"No. I'll do it once I'm done. Don't go near the kitchen."
"Geez, yessir." You crossed your arms.
"I'll be right back. Behave yourself."
You watched him disappear to the bathroom, then heard the sound of running water a few moments later. Collapsing onto his bed, you withdrew your phone and lazily distracted yourself from the emotions that were still subsiding.
We're gonna carry on, I guess. Hopefully I don't embarrass myself like that again.
Levi knows better than to irritate past memories. He was even careful about using handcuffs the first time, and I haven't seen that one rope ever. I wonder if he still has it. You rolled your head to the side, eyeing the occupied bathroom. Hell, maybe he's found other things to use. He's been getting awfully excited with the possibilities.
While Levi was busy, you took the chance to explore his bedroom thoroughly, curious to see if he had other devices he hadn't revealed. First, you checked the corner of the bed to see if the handcuffs were still there. They weren't, indicating Levi must have stored them elsewhere. Maybe he has a drawer for that sort of stuff. You checked the drawers of your bedside table--well, it was still his, but it was on the side of the bed you frequented-- and found nothing more than neatly coiled phone chargers and a flashlight. On his side, you started with the bottom drawer and found an unused candle, a box of tissues, and a downturned photo frame. Curiosity won, and you picked up the picture frame and flipped it over.
A woman and her young child were seated with the child in his mother's lap, each smiling softly as they held each other lovingly. The captured moment was serene and beautiful, surprising you with this bit of warmth hidden deep in Levi's cold possessions. That must be Kuchel. She's pretty. Her facial features were exactly like Levi's, a perfect clone of his face with the only difference being her softer expression that Levi never exhibited. Her hair was black and silky as well, spilling down her shoulders like an inky waterfall. The child on her lap, presumably Levi, was expressing more joy than you had witnessed from him over the entirety of your relationship. How old is he in this? 5? 6? He was a pretty cute kid.
Respectfully, you put the picture back and shut the drawer. I wonder why it's hidden down there.
His top drawer held sleep medication, lotion, a pen, and a blank notepad. Near the back of the drawer, a thin black object was hidden. You retrieved it, holding it up to the light and examining it.
Initially, you couldn't make out what it was supposed to be. It looked like an aluminum grip, dotted with silver rivets that held together the metal layers. Your thumb ran around the edge, searching for some sort of crevice or opening. You saw a sunken switch on one end of the face, so you secured a firm hold on the object and swept the mechanism with your thumb.
A steel blade shot out from the side of the grip, rapidly pivoting until it was locked parallel with the hilt. Oh, it's a switchblade. The sudden weapon surprised you slightly, but you carried on your inspection by rotating it in the light. It was pristine, either unused or just thoroughly cleaned. You brought the knife to your fingertip, pressing ever so delicately. It was sharp, definitely. You were careful to not draw blood, but still took a morbid interest in how easy it would be to do so.
